    Mink oil vs. Mutton tallow???

I've used it 50/50 with beeswax and in that form it's a great bore protector and general lube. I don't think I've ever used it straight. It smells kind of... well, like mutton, so I'm not sure I'd want to be slopping it around on a hot day. For me it's more of a post cleanup thing, or to lube...

    Landis Valley Museum

The people on Yelp seem to like it and have posted quite a few pictures. The one negative review is very old. http://www.yelp.com/biz/landis-valley-museum-lancaster

Former Black Powder gun shop in Anaheim California

Ah - I did a quick search myself and apparently a lot of the property is now called Adventure City or Adventure Land and has kids rides, although there's still a little stub Hobby City out front.

Former Black Powder gun shop in Anaheim California

Walker47 WAS in Hobby City, which was pretty cool - as you remember there was a mini white house with dolls. I went there a lot as a kid. Walker 47 has moved a couple of times since but is in Anaheim at the moment and is one of only a couple of places in Southern CA that sells real black...

    .31 baby dragoon

That IS a problem. I picked up enough pre-made balls to stall for time but I'd hate to keep having to buy them.

    swage round ball

Battery lead has all kinds of nasty stuff in it. They contain arsenic and calcium and the sulphur from the acid ends up forming lead sulfide. Not only can they kill you a couple of different ways but the resulting alloy isn't that great for bullets. Don't go there.

    .31 baby dragoon

Current production Ubertis have .319 chambers according to Dixie. I'd believe it - I shot one today with .319 balls and they pretty much exactly fit. I ordered some .323s. Kind of annoying since I have a .319 mold already. The accuracy was surprisingly good although as expected it hits...

    Remington Pocket

I usually run mine at about 10gr 3F 777 and it works great. I've also just filled the cylinders and compressed it (which I usually don't do with 777, but what the heck) and that was fine too. Mine shoots something like a foot high at 7 yards, which is where I usually shoot it. If I'm working...

anyone use 777 in a .36 cal revolver?

I found 15 grains 777 was an accurate load in my Paterson. I never bothered to chrono it.

    Lead bullet bans

There was a fellow who posted some initial test results using brass balls that looked promising. Perhaps somebody who remembers the details can dig up a link for you.

    Loading the Mini Ball?

They're supposed to be just very slightly smaller than the bore. They should push down without any major pressure but they should stay put and not fall out or anything like that. Sometimes it takes a couple of tries to find something that works.

    1863 Zoave Rifle

I paid $350 + shipping for mine and was really happy. With the powder and balls, sure, if it's nice then go for it, especially if those minie balls worked well with it - it's always a bit of a challenge finding minis that actually work well in a particular rifle.

    #11 magnum caps: Winchester?

That's been the rumor. But in any case anybody happy with CCIs seem to be happy with Winchester even if there are some minor differences. Go get 'em.

    Pedersoli Brown Bess

The craftsmanship is very good and it's a pleasure to shoot. Historical accuracy... I'm sure people will chime in with details, but they apparently modeled it after an original that was a bit of a mixmaster. There are bits from different periods, etc.

    TOW shipping policies...

Yeah, I ship overseas and even the priority mail flat rate envelopes have gotten absurdly expensive to ship and it's probably twice what it was a few years ago. Add onto that the fact that some counties have customs departments that seem to be run primarily by thieves and/or where packages will...

    Howdah Pistol

The Howdah would actually be a pretty decent home defense weapon as long as you don't have some kind of multiple attacker home invasion deal going on. I can fire off two accurate-enough shots amazingly quickly with it.

    Heh. It's square.

    Patterson Colt

Thanks for encouraging me to shoot my Paterson. I watched duelist1954's Paterson video (thanks, Mike, if you should see this) and picked up a couple of little assembly/disassembly tips that helped increase my comfort level with pulling a wedge gun apart quite so many times in one day, packed a...

    The Uberti Walkers durability

I just use a little piece of leather shoelace. Personally I was on the fence for a while between a Walker and a 3rd model Dragoon, arguing with myself that either I should go with the oldest/quirkiest model or go with the most refined "final" model of the large format revolvers. I'd like...

    Howdah Pistol

Loads... in my 20ga version I use .600 balls, .015 patches, 40gr 777 typically. An ounce of #4 buckshot and the same 40gr of powder with an overshot and over powder card gives a nice tight pattern. If I use one of those thick cushion wads the shot goes all over the place.
