March Postal Match Target Ready to Shoot

Nice shooting deerstalkert! I score as a 50 - is that offhand or bench? And that's a nice looking rifle!

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Yesterday - took neighbor and 2 boys out shooting and introduced both to ML rifles - percussion and flint. They thought ML shooting was very interesting, but I think they liked shooting .22 unmentionables better - could shoot more faster! Started polishing buttplate on Woodsrunner and hope to...

Over-powder wad - oversize or to bore?

I use these same wads in my 12 GA Navy Arms double and they work fine!

Over-powder wad - oversize or to bore?

good idea but beyond the capabilities of many people plus my time is more valuable than $15 I spend on a punch:thumb:

Over-powder wad - oversize or to bore?

Buy Osborne punches on ebay in metric sizes - I use 12 mm (.472") punch for .45 cal, 13mm (.512") for .50 cal, and 14mm (.551") for .54 cal. They all fit snug and are easy to start in the barrel. You can always go up one size if you prefer.

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

I’ll post results when I figure it out. I did notice after a couple of shots there is a tight spot down near the bottom of the barrel - maybe some pitting down there.

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

I don’t think it’s the crown - I pushed a patched ball down an inch into the barrel and pulled it out and patch looked fine. The patch is blown out all around the ball. It slides down the barrel easily. Need to shoot a bit more and experiment with different patch materials and see if I can...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Shot the new .50 halfstock today and it is shredding patches all around the ball, but it grouped reasonably well at 25 yds with 50 gr Swiss 2f. Took it to 100 yd range with 70 gr 2f and hit the 10” steel gong on my 3rd shot offhand. Need to figure out what’s shredding patches and find best...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Three of the six just need cosmetic work, two older ones (circa 1835 and 1845~1875) have pretty rough bores and may need to be rebored or lined if I can’t clean them up myself. One other rifle is .50 smoothbore in really rough shape, and will be a wall hanger. Didn’t really care about it but...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Bought a few rifles on auction site. Disassembled cleaned and lubed 2 of them today and plan to test fire tomorrow. One is a .50 with 1-1/8” Douglas barrel and other appears to be a.41 caliber. Need a tang sight for the .41 rifle.

Adding brass endcap to Woodsrunner patchbox.

I put a piece of 1/16” brass in a vise with a 1” dowel and formed it with a hammer - just took a few minutes to match the Woodsrunner lid profile. Still need to final fit and polish it…

    Homemade cleaning Patches

No, but I have always found white cotton flannel wherever they sell fabric. I just like to be able to better see how much crud is coming out while cleaning, but I expect as long as it's 100% cotton flannel it should all work regardless of color...

    Homemade cleaning Patches

100% cotton flannel from JoAnn or Hobby Lobby or any other fabric store. I use pinking shears to cut them into any size you want and they are less expensive than anything you can buy precut. Also repurpose olf T shirts for free!

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Practiced a bit with my .40 flintlock. Needed practice shooting offhand at 100 yds - 1st shot 6” low, 2nd shot 4” high, held base of the front sight even with the top of the rear sight, held at the bottom edge of the gong and rang the 10” gong 3 times in a row! .400 ball, 65 gr Swiss 3f, red...

    Kibler .32 Caliber SMR….

I love my .32 SMR - fun and inexpensive to shoot, no recoil, and very accurate. Some of my friends don't like to shoot the longer barrel offhand, but I like long barrels! This is one of the first targets I shot at 25 yards offhand after completing the rifle. The little .32 is harder to shoot...
