I have 2 Brown Bess muskets. 1 original, and 1 repro. I want to set the repro up strictly for big game hunting. With the lack of sights on the musket, there is too much of a chance of wounding game, and I refuse to take that chance. Is there any way to mount a rear sight that will work with...

    Minie ball lube

I hope that this is being posted in the correct forum. I usually lube about 500 .58 Minie balls at a time, and I am wondering if there is a way to do this that will not take forever, and the lube will hold up in storage for about 3 months. Takes me about that long to use them up. Although I...

    Polishing a barrel

This may sound crazy or stupid, but here goes. I have been gifted a Jap Brown Bess that has not been too well cared for in the past. There is some pitting in the barrel, and I am interested in finding out if it is possible to remove all or most of it. How does one go about polishing pitting out...

I just picked up another Brown Bess. This is marked Dixie Gun works, Japan, with a 4 digit serial number.
