FOR SALE 1861 Colt Repro Rifled Musket

A fine reproduction of the Civil War musket. Stock is one piece and very nice. Has been hunted with and handled -- I shot it a bit. Has been thoroughly cleaned after each use and I taught it to shoot round ball as I got older and the recoil got rougher. Open heart surgery now precludes hunting...

Amazing number of patch lube recommendatons

I went with Dutch Shoultz's system and don't have to try anything else. Wish I had found it sooner. However, Ray Mitchell liked whale oil. He also liked gains twist rifeling and choke bored rifles. I'm not so sure about any of those, but Dutch knows more about achieving accuracy with a patched...

Anybody know of a shop near New Kent Virginia that carries black powder and musket caps?

    Which Zouave Musket?

I just bought one here from the Classifieds. It looks to be in unfired condition, and was imported from Italy by Lyman. I have yet to shoot it, but I suspect it will shoot well. The stock is not walnut, but nicely finished. Anybody out there has one, I would like to hear more.

Perfect Sight Alignment and Accepting Your Wobble Area

I like the idea of a standing supported match! My longest hunting shot came as I leaned into a tree to steady my aim. A very good way to hit what you're aiming at. That said, I still judge my own shooting by how I do at 50 yard offhand.

Natural Point of Aim for Offhand Shooting

Thanks for this post. I've printed it out and it will rest in my file cabinet next to my Schoultz Accuracy packet for future reference. I was in the Navy and we had very minimal training with firearm outside of shooing .22's in boot camp.

Best way to ship a B/P pistol??

Bottom line, they don't need to know what's in the package. Antique tool is what I use. Long as it doesn't involve the littany of questions about what's inside, you are good to go -- and I live in New Jersey. Shipping them out is no problem, but getting them here is a different problem. I can't...

    Cutting the sprue

I have a Tanner mould, and I have used both nippers and side cutters. I weigh all balls and leave the sprue as is so I can load it sprue up. Accuracy has been no different than with swaged balls.

    Shooting without wiping

I concurr. If ultimate accuracy is what you are after, why would you not swab between shots? I use dry squares of paper towels. They come out with a greasy black coating. Being very absorbent, the paper towel cleans enough of the fouling without introducing any liquid, so every time I run a dry...

    Big Sky 1952

Pretty good movie on TCM today. Big Sky with Kirk Douglas. Lots of original flintlocks, and generally well done. Hope they run it again soon.

    Recovered range lead

I bought a bunch of hard lead on Ebay, and a .568 mould from Jeff Tanner to cast balls to shoot out of my Colt musket. Wasn't sure how it would work, but the hard lead balls group as well as as the .570 swaged. I patch 'em tight and swab between shots. Just my experience. I don't see why a...

    1861 Bridesburg

They really knew their way around the metal shop. This particular musket had to have been fired thousands and thousands of times with no visible wear on the lock. Nor did they have CNC machining, or even micrometers -- everything was measured with gauges. Really incredible when you think about it.
