    problems at the range (help!)

Not really, in the grand scheme of things. How much gas did you spend to get to the range? How many caps are spent on failure to fire? How much was spent that day if you shoot 4 rounds and need to drive home with a wet-one that needs extracted at home? Didn't that CO2 discharger cost about $1.25...

    problems at the range (help!)

When I do a moist swab between shots I push slowly down then after 2 or 3 full barrel strokes, judging by how slick the RR slides; I then pull the RR out almost all the way rapidly as I can. This lets a jet of air rush through the nipple and push out any fouling maybe dislodged. A cap fired off...

    BP compression?

This is one of the times where everyone is right or wrong to varying degrees. When you start to compress a black powder charge the consistency becomes increasingly important. If you just set the ball atop the charge without compressing it then exact pressure matters less. The bouncing ramrod...

GM Golden age swamped 36 cal 42" bbl.

No need to worry about warping, long before you reach that kind of temperature the heat-wavers off the barrel will make near impossible to see the sights so you will slow your rate of fire.

    Over charge in the pan

Pyro is like that, rather sluggish. I'm surprised you got it to fire reliably anyhow. Black powder won't have that lag.

    Swamped or not?

I thought the heavier muzzle of a swamped barrel would work like one of these on your hunting bow... While being lighter for carrying and holding but with weight out front to eliminate "twitch."

    Ladder sight aperture?

You know the expression, "Keep your eye on the target," ? The way aperture sights work is they make your eye self-centering so-to-speak. If you can see through the sight and put the front blade on the target; the tiny aperture should be a slight blur that you look through, not at. Even with old...

    Spruce Beer

5 days old? It needs some time in the bottle to mellow. With the young pale spruce buds you should end up with a background flavor like Chinook hops. Too old of buds and you end up with more like "Pine-Sol" beer(ale).

    Thoughts on bullet casting

Hit a few flea markets and see if you can find an old Coleman stove. They kick out plenty of heat if you keep them pumped up. You might find it burns yellow but a .25 caliber cleaning brush, Hoppes #9 and some steel wool will clean the lead deposits off the generator spring and tube and it will...

    Windage Adjustment: 1863 Springfield

It should barely take a 1/16th inch of bend between the sights.

    Windage Adjustment: 1863 Springfield

I'm surprised the "bend the barrel" crowd isn't here yet. But anyway, just bend the barrel as needed.

    Flint

It depends on the individual lock and the individual flint. There's no rule, except that your lock has its' own likes or dislikes.

    Lead

Careful with the wheel weights. The new ones are zinc and if you get one zinc weight into the melt it will spoil the batch. I got a bucket from the tire shop and it was only about 10% lead weights.

    CVA Hawken Lock Cleaning Question

Don't know if your Hawken is done the same as my mountain rifle; but DON'T remove the forward lock screw (closest to muzzle), unscrew it but leave it in place. It secures the spring that retains the ramrod. It isn't a major problem but you need to pull the barrel to remount the retainer spring...

    My misterious cannon

A generic line-throwing cannon. That use would place it appropriately on the shore of Long Island. rescue cannon
