    Dangerous mass produced muzzleloaders

Biggest issue I have seen with modern ML rifles are poor adjustment of the nipple right out of the box. I am a manager for a membership store here in the Pacific Northwest and have had to send a couple ML rifles in for service because of misfires. The problem is that the nipple is too far...

    Damp climate rust prevention

Gave it another cleaning with more attention to the exterior this time. One thing that occurred to me is that I am shooting triple seven and mag caps when I was shooting black powder and regular caps previously. May have to up the scrub time when dealing with those products. Mags are all I...

    Damp climate rust prevention

I thought I was cleaning up well, may have to revisit my methods. The bore is nice and clean with no rust forming, just the outside that is giving me troubles. Will try the WD-40.

    Damp climate rust prevention

In my bedroom closet. A gun cabinet is on my wish list.

    Damp climate rust prevention

For those of us who live in damp climates, how do you keep the rust off your weapons? I have been fighting with surface rust around the nipple on my percussion rifle and cannot seem to find that magic bullet (pardon the pun) to keep rust from forming. It is just light surface rust, but it bugs...

    if you get your tag......

Oregon private land elk. Odds are low in my game zone, but I will try anyway.

How do ya plan to get your Gobbler this Spring?

Yep, you guys can keep the snow. 20 years in Alaska gave me an appreciation for the cool rain of the Oregon coast. No need to shovel rain. :)

    Spring Bear?

I find it interesting how some folks are against bait, but they are fine with decoys and calls. Both are a form of bait, but I guess luring an animal with the hopes of sex is more acceptable than luring them in with the hopes of a meal. Food plots and salt licks are also bait as far as I am...

    Spring Bear?

Baiting is not legal around here, but it is in Alaska where I lived for many years. I used to go to the bakery thrift store on Tuesdays when they tossed out the old bread from the week before. I could get big trash bags full of stuff for two dollars each. Add some sweet stuff to hold it all...

    Spring Bear?

Locked up permission to hunt over 250 acres of private land yesterday. Has deer, lots of small game, and at least one big ol black bear. Was not planning on going after bear this year, but I figured since I have permission....why not? Tag is purchased and I will be working out some good loads...

How do ya plan to get your Gobbler this Spring?

Going to try turkey hunting for the first time this year. No ML allowed for turkey around here and I do not own a smoothbore anyhow, so it is a modern shotgun for me. I got permission to hunt on a farm with at least 60 birds roaming around the place, so my odds are good. Should be a lot of fun.

    Coconut oil as lube?

Most coconut oil melts at 76 degrees. In my region it will remain fairly solid through most conditions and certainly during the hunting months. Got a big jug of the stuff in the kitchen and will probably give it a try next time I am out shooting. I get it by the gallon for cheap at a local...

    Coconut oil as lube?

Anyone here use coconut oil as patch lube? Seems it would work as it stays fairly solid like bore butter or crisco.

    Grits

I was born in the south, but the family moved to Oregon when I was a baby. As a result, I grew up eating all kinds of southern foods that my friends had never heard of. Grits, hush puppies, black eyed peas, collard greens, cornbread, fried okra, and other such foods were common at home, but...

    How is your cap supply?

I am rebuilding my MZ supplies since moving and so far I cannot find any caps in the county. I have a couple more shops to check out before I start to call shops that are an hour drive away. You can get everything else you need for your boom stick locally....except for the caps. Guys around...

    Medford, Oregon?

Thanks for the info. I live between Phoenix and Talent just off 99. Guy at Sportsman's Warehouse said that the local club does a group buy once or twice a year for BP. Not sure of the accuracy of that statement, but the club is on my list of groups to visit.

    Medford, Oregon?

Recently moved from Alaska to Oregon just outside of Medford. Was wondering if any other members here lived in the area and could recommend a place to buy ML guns and gear. I sold all my stuff to help fund the move and now the fun part of putting it all back together again can begin.

Old Guys vs Young Guys 2011, ends July 31st

What sucks is that I had my rifle in the truck and was going to the range right after work. Was on my knees reaching a lower shelf and when I got up it snap crackled and popped and I went back down to the floor. Doc says I have a small tear in the knee and it should heal itself in a couple...

Old Guys vs Young Guys 2011, ends July 31st

I tore up my knee at work, so I am down and out for this event. Will be a couple weeks before I am mobile enough to get to the range. Sorry guys. Just hope I am well enough for hunting at the end of August.

Old Guys vs Young Guys 2011, ends July 31st

Got caught up with fishing, so I will get to the range on Wednesday. I can shoot with my off hand and blindfolded if that will make the old stogies feel better.
