    straight razor shaving

I really love Straight Razors. I have a good collection of about 60 very good Razors. I also have sharpening stones and several strops. I have shaved with a Straight Razor since 1973. Every day. I have not used any other method since then. I use Williams Shaving Soap and a 1950's Old Spice Mug...

    Flat spot on Round Ball

Thanks everyone for your help. I purchased these balls from Track of the Wolf and was actually surprised they had a flat spot on them. The spot is large enough to notice and to allow the balls to sit on a slanted surface without rolling. Will load them flat spot up.

Being new to Black Powder I would like to have help on loading a Black Powder revolver with round balls having a small flat spot. I purchased .380 round balls for a Uberti 1851 Navy and they have a small flat spot on them. When loading the revolver where do I position the flat spot? I hope I...

    Bore Butter

I forgot to mention that Ballistol is based on NSF H1 oil. I purchased a gallon several years ago from a Hobart Distributor.

    Bore Butter

I have tried Bore Butter recently but do not like it. I have used H1 food processor oil for a long time. This is a mineral oil that is used by the food processing industry to lubricate the food slicers and other equipment. It is FDA approved because it may come in contact with food. If you...

    tallow/grease holes

I hate to ask a dumb question but since I just started BP shooting a month ago I would like to know more about the tallow hole this thread refers to. Did our fore fathers' guns have this hole? I have never seen one in any of the pics I have looked at in the past month or so. I have done a lot of...

    Tung Oil

I have refinished many gun stocks over the years and I have always used Minwax Antique Oil Finish. It provides a tough durable finish and if applied correctly can give the wood a satin finish like nothing else I have seen. If you ding or scratch the stock you can apply a small amount of the oil...

    An abused CVA

I was in Oklahoma camping with my youngest son last week and dropped by an old Pawn Shop in a small town. I found an old CVA Mountain rifle .50 Cal. The guy had it marked down from $64.95 to $54.95. After talking for 30 minutes I was able to purchase the rifle for $44.95. The barrel looked a...

How long can you leave it loaded?

I went to the local hardware store and purchased a handful of what was called rubber suction tubing caps. They have several different sizes and I found one size that fit the nipples perfectly. They keep moisture out of the nipple plus protect it as well. I think they were 5 cents a piece.

    Hopkins & Allen BP Rifle

I tried a different brand patch. The ones I started with miked out at .022 instead of .010. The new patches I purchased were correct and fit properly so the problem is solved. The gun shoots nicely with 45 grains of fff BP.It will take me a few trips to the range to dial it in but it is so much...

    Hopkins & Allen BP Rifle

I purchased the .440 round balls and .010 patches and tried to load the gun for the first time today. The ball with the patch was too large to go in the barrel. The ball went into the barrel just fine without the patch. In fact it went all the way to the bottom or whatever you would call the...

    Hopkins & Allen BP Rifle

In fact I have never shot one before.I would like to know how much powder to use on a normal load and if this gun can shoot other bullets beside the round lead ball. Also if anyone has...
