    H&A Boot Pistol

Nope, I went back to buy it the next day and it was gone!

    Vintage H&A underhammer

Finally got around to making my own 'lollypop' sight...

    An interesting discovery

Barrel fouling? I seem to recall when I was shooting Pyrodex that the smaller the caliber, the worse the fouling.

    H&A Boot Pistol

I was considering one I found in a gun shop in Virginia back in the 90's. It was a kit and the bore was horrible. It was made by Palmetto and marked as 'Heritage' same as the H&A's sold by Numrich. Now, I have read an article that stated, once the bore was lapped, they were fine shooters.

High hopes for old CVA .45 Kentucky

Mine won a couple of matches in Virginia.

    Vintage H&A underhammer

Exactly what I was thinking. I got the buttstock fixed short term. Small wooden dowels from various angles epoxied in place seems to have fixed the cracks for the moment. I'm making a lollypop sight, in fact I weld the base up tomorrow. All I've had to go by is a few pics on the internet.

    Cooper .31 DA

It would have been cool to have one, you don't see them that often.

    H&A Boot Pistol

As long as the bore is good, she should be a great shooter. From the looks, 200 may be a bit steep but not much. Is the maker Palmetto?
  9. G

    H&A Minuteman

From what I've found, Numrich guns were made by Palmetto. From what experience I've had with Palmetto their quality was spotty at best. Sometimes you could get a real gem, then the next one is total trash.

    Vintage H&A underhammer

Thanks! Yeah, the hole for the sight looks like it was never used. It needs quite a bit of work, mainly the barrel pin is pretty hammered.

    H&A Minuteman

I had a Minuteman back in the mid nineties. Only problem I had was the mainspring was a bit weak and the frizzen was too soft. I had a Dixie Pennsylvania pistol kit that was garbage and swapped out the parts and it shot really well. Yesterday, I picked up a .45 Heritage at a pawn shop for 100...

    Vintage H&A underhammer

I just picked one up yesterday from a pawn shop. 100 bucks. The stock is cracked pretty badly, but it's fixable. There's a bit of external rust and a very light amount of surface rust in the bore, but no pitting. .45 cal. Serial number in the 500's. It's missing the 'lollypop' peep sight. Nipple...

    Strange comment from UK

The only thing I have ever heard even resembling this is forcing cone gap. If the gap is too large, it supposedly causes erratic accuracy. Personally, I have never really noticed an appreciable difference.

    Attempted Presidential Assassination

From what I recall, after re-capping the pistols, they fired properly. I guess Jackson didn't need secret service.

    Trade or Not?

AH, yeah, it's a good trade indeed!

    Kassner .45 percussion

I picked up a Kassnar Kentucky pistol kit back in '78 and the bore was HORRIBLE. I have never seen so many chatter marks on rifle before or since. Strangely, though, the action was smooth and fired reliably.

Loading a percussion revolver the old way- how to?

I used to carry a small chunk of pure beeswax with me and I would carefully do the cookie cutter thing with the caps. Just enough to get a little wax on the edge of the cap, then put the caps on. This was to make them somewhat more water resistant when I was working on the property in high...

Anyone Shooting a Investarm 45 Hawken

I bought a Cabelas Powder River Rifle in 54 about 16 years ago and it shoots better than I do. Fairly plain, iron furniture, didn't care much for the triggerguard and found out it swapped perfectly with a CVA Frontier Rifle.

To whack or not to whack?

Several years ago I got a CVA Kentucky in a good deal, cut the barrel down to around 30 inches and made it a half-stock. Recrowned the barrel myself and it is a great shooter, actually won a couple of local matches with it. I say go for it, it's your rifle, make it fit and make it fun.

    Hunting with a BP Handgun

Cover all bases, go to Dixie Gun Works and get the Harpers Ferry Pistol Carbine. 58 caliber, detachable shoulder stock, percussion.
