Loktite make a product called "Freeze and Release". It comes as a spray can and works well.

    Sight Adjustment Ditty

I shoot rifles with windage adjustments on the rear or front sights regularly - often one in a match in the morning and the other in the afternoon. And tests have shown winding yourself off the target isnt a constructive hobby :) The way I remember it is : if the windage adjustment is on the...

Pedersoli Bess - flash, no boom

After a good clean and making sure you have a big enough touch hole ( I think you mean 3/32 not 3/16 ) there are 2 more things you can try - one is to store the musket barrel down - the other is to knock the butt on the ground once after putting the main charge down - this should ensure you have...

    Ballistol

Two further points with Ballistol. First less is more with this - you dont need a lot if its neat - if its cut then you can can leave the patches sopping wet if you need to. I use the spray can as I can get a thin film on the cleaning cloth. With the big cans we decant in to a little pump spray...

    Ballistol

I'm happy to report that Balistol does not leave deposits as you report MD. I've used it cut with water both with wet patches and on soaked and dried patches. I have also used it neat cleaning between shots when using pp bullets at long range. Its an excellent product.

    Dutch Schoultz and Blackpowder Accuracy

I would add that I was lent a copy of Dutch's formulae some ten years ago by a local shooter here who took pity on my efforts to get a patch ball gun shooting. I went on to buy my own copy and have had my share of gold silver and bronze medals with loads sorted using his info. That confidence...

    Dutch Schoultz and Blackpowder Accuracy

Its regular sail cloth - patches supplied by Jeff Tanner - he supplies it in regular diameters and thinknesses from .005 to .030 I think. Its a very close weave material and very strong - a bit less flexible than Fustian - the material used for making period uniform britches. As for the spit...

    Dutch Schoultz and Blackpowder Accuracy

Would just like to say thanks Dutch - I won the 200 yard 10 shots off hand + 10 from a rest last Friday with an original "Ounce Rifle" .608 ball (all weighed) + .026 sail cloth patch - spit lube and 75 grains of FF powder

    Friendship, In

A gang of 4 of us from the UK included 2 weeks at Friendship over the Fall shoot as a warm up for the World Champs at Camp Atterbury NC. We had 2 trailers in the park and had a great time. All the staff from the guy who fixes things up to the girls in the office and all the range officers were...

    Ballistol Patch Lube Experiment

Thats because the Ballistol had done its work whilst you were waiting. It just takes a bit of patience. At the end of the day if you want to prove spits the stuff and not Ballistol dont worry to much - it just leaves more for others.

    lead purity

Get yourself a Lee hardness tester, they are easier to use, less expensive and I think more accurate than the Seico. You will then always know if your lead is pure and if ever you get into mixed alloy for longer range bullets you will be ready.
