do any of you hunt with your black powder cap-and-ball revolvers?

Yep, my Dad use to carry a replica 51 Navy in each back pocket of his overalls when squirrel hunting. Saw him put 2 balls into a squirrel leaping from one branch to another one day.

    Dutch colonial game bag

You just push a 'loop' of the leather thong holding the ring through the ring put the rabbit/squirrel's foot through it and pull tight. No extra thongs needed. Macon

    My brother forgot the powder.........

He just said.....a'bullet' for a muzzle loader did not mention a sabot and since I don't shoot that kind of manure I never thought to verify? I will find out though.

    My brother forgot the powder.........

    My brother forgot the powder.........

He has a 50 cal. percussion.."Hawken"...and he loaded a jacketed bullet for it and forgot the powder. [and yes I also hate 'jacketed bullets' in a B.P. rifle] So anyhow he says he has tried getting powder in behind the ball thru the nipple hole with no success and he could not get a screw jag...

    Squirrel caliber?

You sound like you read a lot and have a lot of theory.I am talking about practical experience based [ in my case on several years hunting and in my buddy's case on 40 years + ] So when I say that we discovered a .32 or a .36 was just as hard on body shots as a .45 you can believe it. Also I...

    Squirrel caliber?

My buddy and I just hunted with our .45 cal. flintlocks. We discovered that you have to head shoot em with even .32 or .36 cal. or it will blow em in half so might as well just use what you deer hunt with. Macon Due

Neither rain, nor snow, nor blah blah.

Their job is to ship our items, that is what we pay them for. They have gotten used to whining and slacking off and now using the virus as an excuse. My sister in law worked at a large postal center in Kansas City and said that as soon as everyone clocked in , 90% of them grabbed papers and...

Neither rain, nor snow, nor blah blah.

Yes the USPS Postal Service SUCKS !. I have a Christmas gift that has been setting at the first distribution center it made it to since Dec. 13th. and the bozos at USPS can only say that due to the virus and "unprecedented" business packages might be delayed. They just got a 10 billion dollar...

    My holster is too hard

Actually .......you CAN take it away,if you add too much oil to a leather item. Fill a box the item will fit in with Kitty Litter and bury your leather item in it. Check it after 2-3 days and see how much of the excess oil has been drawn out.? You might have to leave it for a week or two...but...

    Powder Horn photos

I have made a few over the years. I do not have the talent of a lot of these guys but this "Join or Die" one turned out ok. I reversed the picture to better go with the horn as I'm a southpaw shooter. The second one I bought from someone and as it was somewhat 'period crude' [ and I do not mean...

Just a show of hands, how many make their own ammution?

First off..........you do it in an area where you don't inhale "too many" lead fumes and secondly........you scrounge lead so you end up with basically free lead. Your equipment can be a ball mold or mould if you prefer, an old spoon to dip with, and old hammer handle and a camp stove with an...

    Testing the flintlock?

    Made me a Shot Pouch

Nice looking pouch but next time........try to make your button as well. You can make a pretty nice one from an old copper penny, just lay it on something like a lead ingot and start tapping it with the ball end of a ball/peen hammer to make it dish shaped. Then form a wire loop to use to secure it...
