    How to refinish Chromium Trioxide

It was a nice amber red color when applied. However, expose it to UV rays, and it turns very green.

45 caliber Woodrunner balance and feel.

I’ve built all three. The 45 is a bit heavy for me, the 54 a little too light at the muzzle for good offhand target shooting. The 50 is just right for targets, 54 just right for hunting. These are just my opinions, but I’m old, and not as strong as I used to be.

    How to refinish Chromium Trioxide

No the CT will not bleed through. I made the same mistake years ago. Fixed that one and a couple for others the same way.

Patchbox spring placement & function question

Your placement is actually pretty good. Might I suggest, before you adjust anything, just try shimming the patch box return spring up a bit. Like a popsicle stick thickness. You should still have just a little pressure on the lid spring, even when it’s open.

Iron Nitrate assistance - Woodsrunner Kit

Don’t need alcohol. Just use water.

    How to refinish Chromium Trioxide

If you can get the finish off, you do not need to remove the chromium trioxide. Stain over the top with a good alcohol based stain, like LMF and it will kinda cancel out the green. Once you get the color you want, seal it up again with varnish or oil of your choice.

    What is it?

I suspect it’s a military design. Think about it, a whole box full of the “cartridges “, you could lay down some pretty good volleys down range

John S. Brooks Muzzleloader information requested- unit cleanout

That IS a very special firearm, by a very special builder. $3000 is not out of th price range. Look carefully at the carving and engraving.

FOR SALE High carbon belt knife

Hey guys, wasn’t trying to be snarky. It IS a fine knife. NOT period correct at all. Sorry if I offended.

FOR SALE High carbon belt knife

Still a modern knife. Surprised it hasn’t been removed. Sorry!

FOR SALE High carbon belt knife

Really nice blade, but not sure what it has to do with traditional muzzleloaders.

A rifle that needs swabbed after every shot on a woodswalk??

Shooting is supposed to be fun. Swabbing a bore between every shot is NOT, The things that determine fowling build up are patch/ball combo, and lube. You can absolutely find a combo that will fix this. Too loose…..fouling, lube that doesn’t keep fouling soft……same problem. Tight combo, liquid...

    My blunderbuss options

Spend your money on something more worthwhile. Here’s my take. It would be a fun project, then you shoot it once or twice, and voila! It becomes just a conversation piece, never to be used again. Unless you spend most of your spare time protecting your carriage from highway men that is. Sorry...

    Convert percussion to flintlock.

Maybe I’m over cautious. Removable touch hole liners are just not safe to me. Thread them in and out, pretty soon the threads are buggered, and there goes the seal. Just me I guess. I refuse to hand a client a gun that I don’t believe is safe.

    Convert percussion to flintlock.

I’ve done several conversions. They were all different. The only way to safely do what you’re wanting to do is with at least 2 barrels. You could rig the percussion barrel with some kind of adapter or nipple to handle both caps and primers. The other barrel will be for your flint. There is NO...

Issac Haines build question - barrel/lock alignment

Sorry Clark, I may have misinterpreted your response. (Damn interweb) In turn, I believe I got my hackles up for no reason. I had a couple of guns with the grooved breechplug, and they were very difficult to clean, and therefore I didn’t trust them. I vowed never to be that kind of builder. I...

Issac Haines build question - barrel/lock alignment

Obviously I’m not going to change your mind. I don’t want an unclean able groove in my breech plug. Don’t care if that works for you. The old adage applies here. My mind is made up, don’t confuse me with facts.

Issac Haines build question - barrel/lock alignment

Ok Clark, tell me how you’re going to clean a groove in a breechplug? We can agree to disagree, and it really doesn’t matter how the French got away with it. The best manner is obviously a flat breech face.

    Lock Binding

Your trigger is putting pressure on the sear, not allowing it to drop into full and half cock notches. There are several ways to fix it, but all have the Same results. Don’t grind on the sear bar. Lower trigger bar, or adjust the pressure of the trigger mainspring, or both.
