    Smooth bore barrel Hawken

I ran upon a Armi-Sport barrel, at a flea market. It is smooth bore .62. I had to mill a small slot in the bottom of the snail, to make it fit over the TC lock plate. Shoots great and a lot of fun. The Armi-Sport barrel is choked, and it throws a nice pattern. Oh yes, it cost me all of $10...

    Dry firing?

I "second" the faucet washer. I've used them many times.

    36 a shooter

Our range has similar regulations. We allow shooting at shorter distance, provided that the frame is correct height for rounds to impact backstop berm area. Our range is slightly uphill. Most guys or girls, use a PVC homemade target stand to get inline with the berm. But....we also have a pistol...

    flintlock pistol

We have a similar law in Va. Close as I can remember, without looking it up, it must be at least 50 cal. loaded from the muzzle, with at least 50 grains of powder. Not a lot of production pistols, fall into that category, in the traditional style. I cut down a TC WMC, and made a mare's leg...

    Armi San Marco engraved Navy

I have an ASM 1860, which seems to be a well made reproduction. I haven't shot it much, but with the weather changing, I might get out, to shoot. I've let some nice one's get away, too.

    An Uberti contratemps

I've had similar problems with Uberti's and other Colt clones. I've also had a Ruger Old Army, that had to be de-burred. Seems like the pride in workmanship, has been lost. Metal's are better, machining process is better, but hand fitting skills, seemed to have been lost. It's a shame, but poor...

My old / new to me flintlock

I like flints that are flat on top and bottom, and are close to the same shape and length. Then, when I replace them, the results should be the same. In hunting situations, I use the best flints, and save the others, for target shooting. I like the leather wrap, to be consistent in thickness...

    Killer colonial kit

In our club, we have 3 Kibler SMR's. The first done by an experienced kit builder. The second was built by an inexperienced builder, but got help from experienced club members. The third was sent to a custom builder. Obviously, the third looks the best, the first was very nice and the second...

    New Seneca

Great find. I have a 36 Seneca and 32 Cherokee, but a 45 would be good if I run upon one.

    New Seneca

Are you saying that all the parts were nickeled? Someone must have had that done.

    T/C replacement barrels

I put a 15/16 barrel in my Renegade. It leaves a 1/32 gag on each side. I have a couple of shims in the bottom and upon each side. My intentions was to glass/bed the barrel, but it shoots just fine and the barrel/gap is barely visible. However if I fell with the rifle and hit the stock, it might...

    Asm frame - Colt barrel?

I have one in 1860 Colt and it would pass for a 2nd Gen. Colt, to someone not paying close attention. The one that I have has the Colt markings on the barrel and maybe the cylinder. I've heard that they are hit and miss, in quality. Mine seems to be a very well made gun and it shoots good...

    Single phase-double set triggers

Zonie, is right on. The secret is to hold the hammer, and not push it back. Then be ready to grab the hammer. Point it in a safe direction. I use a faucet washer to dry fire. I would not consider a faucet washer, as a safety. However if the gun is pointed in a safe direction, the washer "might"...

    Surface cracks/splits in stock

If I had owned the rifle for a while, that would be one thing..........but to start out with a crack. No, I would not accept that. That would bug me, from now on. A builder, tried to sell me a custom Hawken, with a repaired place in front of the trigger guard. He never mentioned it....like I...

    T/C Cherokee 32 and 45 NIB

That's a great deal, for NIB and two barrels. I have a 32, but the barrel is pitted. It still shoots good. Not sure what twist they are. I don't try to shoot heavy loads. If the stock was to crack, it would be bad news. I'm pretty sure that you can still download the manual. Good find!!

    tc seneca 36cal.

The epoxy will fill the gap, the same as if wood was there. You will need to blend it in, where the lock plate should be. Even manufacturers add fillers where the wood is too low. Percussion locks do not fit against the barrel, like flint locks do. Maybe I should have explained it a little better.

    T/C hawken

54 is the one to have. I have several TC's. I shoot Black MZ., especially in my cap locks. Easy to clean. Packed tight, it shoots great.

    T/C hawken

I have had, two Seneca's, both .36 cal. I sold the first one, years ago. Not going to make that mistake again. You might be able to find a .36 barrel.....sweet.
