    Lube

Sounds kinda crazy, but I have a big tin of leather preservative that came with my Dyer mocs, and I have used it for patch lube and seemed to work OK!

Been on the hunt for a good hawk

I have a Blackhawk cast hawk that I got years ago. It stays sharp, and is a good thrower, and best I can recall wasn't too expensive. My 2 cents... slik

Under hammer what do you think?

I have a H&A underhammer action mated to a round T/C barrel in .50, and it is a tack driver. No regrets with this gun! slik

    New rifle

I think Navy made this gun as a cut down Zouave, so minies would work OK. They were really popular in the day. Rick

    Investarms Hawken

I'm gonna do something for sights after I break her in. I assume that the twist is 1 in 48? Rick

    Investarms Hawken

I hate the adjustable sights too, and want something more in line to a trade/plains rifle, but will have to work with the screw holes I guess. I know the rifle is not a true copy, but would like to get it more PC than it comes, if I get it. Rick

    Investarms Hawken

Well, went and got the Investarms Hawken today. Guy also had a can of powder, caps, flask, patches and balls with it. Looks to be in really good shape, also got a nice Civil War wooden canteen (unused) thrown in! I'll go tomorrow or Monday and punch out the bore and do a really good cleaning...

    Traditions Shenandoah 50 Flint

I have one and have had no problems with mine. Rick

    Investarms Hawken

It has the adjustable rear similar to the T/C Hawken. Will the primitive front and rear that T/C makes fit this gun? Rick

    Investarms Hawken

Just got chance to buy a used older Investarms Hawken in .50. Gun looks to be in decent shape, just needing a good cleaning. Guy wants $100 for it, and I think it's a good price. What do you guys think? Also, do they make primitive sights for these guns, or will the T/C primitives work on...

    Gourd Canteens

I have just come across several long necked gourds, and have found one that I think will hold about a quart. How do you guys make your canteens, seal them, and what type of strap to carry it? Thanks for the info. Rick

    Newbie with Remington

True, true. Can't wait for this weather to break so I can get it out on the range! Rick

    Newbie with Remington

Using the wads, how long can the cylinder stay loaded without the grease in the wad fouling the powder, or is this just a non-issue? Thought I'd maybe load a cylinder after sighting it in, and carry it with me on walks. Rick

    Newbie with Remington

A couple of questions for you guys. I have a new Remington 1858 Pietta with 2 spare cylinders. I got a loading stand, balls and pre lubed wads from Dixie. I plan to cast my own as soon as I use up these, making sure the balls work OK. Any recommendations for loads, with BP as well as Pyrodex...

    Grandpa's Old Guns

I have a match to your single barreled gun, come out of NE Missouri. Is the barrel half octagon, half round? I can't find any markings on mine, but what you have on the back action is very faint on mine. I guess it is a single barrel shotgun? Let me know if ya find out anything else! Rick

    New Knives

I have one of the old coffin handled Gerber bowies. Never liked the rubber handle, so I had it replaced with an ironwood coffin traditional handle, and had a leather sheath made for it. I've carried it for many years, and it will still shave the hair off your arm! Gerber makes a great...

    Underhammer in Fur Trade era

I think the underhammer project I'm doing is going to turn out great- a H&A underhammer coupled to a .50 cal. T/C barrel, just for oddity if nothing else. At least it will be unique! Rick

    Underhammer in Fur Trade era

Was the underhammer in use during the Fur Trade era? I have heard that some matches will not allow it for this reason, which I think is debatable! Any info will be appreciated. BTW, I have an underhammer project underway, and will post pictures when finished. Rick

    Terry C. Johnson/Titus Bass series

Western literature took a loss when Terry Johnston died. I read all of his books, and corresponded with him several times. IMHO one of the greats. Rick
