Traditions is the "Harbor Freight Tools" of Muzzleloading?

FWIW, I love my Traditions Trapper model pistol. Very well made and shoots better than the shooter. I was very fortunate to inherit a custom California Half Stock from my 2nd cousin. Beautiful gun. I thoroughly enjoy shooting them both. I would not hesitate to buy another Traditions. I also...

Ram Rod for Pedersoli 50 cal Hawken

Mine broke on my custom made California Half Stock and I replaced with brass rod. Drilled and tapped hole for accessories. It adds weight, but my barrel is already 1 1/8 and I hold it steadier.

    Patching Technique Question

My California Half Stock in .50 caliber uses .497 balls and I use .22-.23 pillow ticking washed/dried twice. I sometimes have to hammer it in. I use a rawhide hammer on my short starter. It's really hard to get started when my hammer is down as I found out, that hammer can seal the barrel...

    my New Trappers Pistol

I bought a new one in the box. It fires great. As it was new, my mentor told me to run some of that stainless steel sponge through it on my cleaning rod to get the machining burrs off and what not. It shoots wonderfully! You'll love it, at least I do. .22 pillow ticking, .490 balls and I think...

    Need advise on rusted barrel

A buddy at work gave me an old italian made 50 cal with a severely rusty barrel. I poured some of that naval jelly cleaner in it and let it soak. I used a cleaning patch soaked in the naval jelly and hydro cleaned it. I then put some of that stainless steel pad on a jag and gave it a whirl...

    woohoo!! Powder

Out here on the pacific coast, I found a place in Oregon that sells it for 20+ a lb. The Gun Works in Springfield. As an Oregon Ducks fan, when we go up to see games (football, softball, volleyball etc) I swing by and get some. I have about 20lbs of combined 2-3F powders and a ton of caps to...

    Broke my ramrod

I use brass ram rods on my Cal half stock. my gun is already heavy 1" 1/8 barrel (50 cal) and the added weight helps me keep'er steady'er! I use a bore protector but brass is softer than steel and don't worry about damage. I also put a brass ram rod under my Traditions Trapper and I have a...
