    Joe Woods Coning Tool

You know that is the tool I use. I had several rifles and smoothbores to do and didn't want to buy multiple tools. Ed's tool works great !!

    Ballistol

Well I have to through my 2 cents in. I mix Ballistol 20 % with 80% water into a pump plastic bottle and have no rust issues at all. The only complaint I might have is the smell. But when mixed with water, it really hinders the smell. Love the stuff ! But I still run a patch of rubbing alcohol...

    Old Fowler

Just became the owner of this old fowler. It is approximately 20 ga. with a 36 inch barrel. A half walnut stock, nicely checkered with a single wedge holding the barrel. There are no markings on the lock or the barrel. Any thought or information on this old piece would be greatly appreciated...

    .58 ball size

I like a .562 rb. If you are trying to immolate an 18th cent. woodsman I truly believe that an undersized ball and somewhat thicker patch was much more common than the "hammer down the bore" shooters of today !

    lubing homemade patches

Well I try and keep things as simple as I can. I simply melt my lube, which ever I am using at the time, and with a pair of large twizers or weinnie tongs, I dip a rolled up strip of patching material in the lube. I squeeze out the excess lube and place the roll on a piece of paper towel to dry...

    Cleaning your ML

Again thank you for all your replys. I have eliminated the bore butter/wonder lube and am now cleaning my ML's with water and finally either Ballistol or B/C Baricade (which is easier for me to find and smells SO much better). So far when I run a patch down the bore I am seeing a very white...

    Cleaning your ML

Thank you for your ideas. I was just wondering after you got all the messy gunk out of your bore with the brake cleaner, what did you use to oil the bore with? A homemade recipe or a more modern oil/solvent? Thanks again.

    Cleaning your ML

Yes I believe so but it's the bore side of the patch that's dirty not the jag side.
