    Rifle shooting low?

Aaa-men! I tell people who ask what it's like to shoot a flintlock: if you don't like getting dirty, smelling like rotten eggs, being surrounded by gun-smoke, if you don't like to fiddle around, tinker, adjust and re-adjust, and cannot live without a 100% guarantee the thing will go off -- then...

    Double load of black powder

A-men, brother! I even have a third mark to show me when nothing is in it.

    I Love My Rifle

I have a .45 42" swamped Colerain and am very happy with it.

    A well lubed patch.

Started using Stumpy's Moose Juice a few months ago just to see how it worked. Good stuff. Finally got around to making some of Stumpy's Moose Snot (gotta love that name). Worked as well, maybe a little bit better than the Juice. Now there are three options for lube: Dutch's method...

    colerain vs rice barrels

    I too have a Colerain -- 42", swamped, .45 cal. I'm happy with it.

How often do you use your set trigger?

Always on the custom .45. Never on the Lyman .50 -- it came with single.

FF or FFF in .45 flintlock

I have tried both 2F and 3F in my Colerain .45 with near equal results. That being said, "Kitten" likes the 3F a bit better. 45 grains and 70 grains work the best. I mostly use 45 grains 3F because it is more comfortable and more shots per pound (guess I'm old and cheap  ). Lesson I...

Yep! But you are spot on> :hatsoff:

    Barrel length PRB

Sweed, I don't know much about all the technical stuff. I helda flintlock with a 42" swamped .45 cal 1:60 twist and it felt good so that's what I had built. (I only know all those numbers and stuff because someone wrote them down for me! :) ) Worked for me

    Under the clean out screw...

Stumpy, would just flushing-pumpimg water through the barrel clean it out? :idunno: Seems that the flushing action would clean out the breech. God I hope so; that's what I've been doing with the Deerstalker. :hmm:

Hoppe's Black Powder Solvent and Patch Lube

Hansi, with that big of a container (like bulk buying  ) what is your routine to lube your patches (individual) or patch material to cut at muzzle? :idunno:

    Shots between swabing

"I use 50% winterized windshield washer fliuid and 50% liquid dove hand soap as a lube." Jerry, you know I gotta ask: with that liquid dove hand soap do you blow bubbles out the muzzle? :rotf:

    Hard conditions to shoot in....?

Amen, brother. Between age and meds 30 with no rain or wind is about it for this one. :surrender:

After shooting -- cleaning. There's the rub!

Just a thought: Has anyone tired to modify the Flintlock EZ Flush kit by eliminating the O-ring part and matching the touch hole threading with a small tube-like gizmo that would screw directly into the touch hole on one end and have the tubing attached to the other end? Wonder if it would...

    Moose Juice and patch change?

Is there a need to change patches (thickness) when using Moose Juice? Using #40 Drill with 8:1 ballistol a la Chuck Shultz now and wondered if I need to change to different patch thickness if I use Moose Juice. Can't get to range for awhile but thought might as well make up some new patches if...

    I'm about done.

You have gotten some real good advice and suggestions from this forum. But you still seem a bit tensed up and discouraged. My only suggestion is before you go out shooting again take a good look at Keb's avatar. If that little guy doesn't bring a smile to your face and make you relax nothing...

    Texas Flint

I found the easiest way to make flints is to give Rich Pierce a phone call! :rotf:

    Open sights and old eyes

Paul is right on. I would only add that I also added a thicker blade on the front sight. That improved sight picture dramatically.
