How to assess an original antique gun?

If you think a bear is a furry person then I am sorry, not much hope for you, I dont want to drink that kool aid. A bear is a bear, nothing more, nothing less. You can respect the animal, but it is not a human, just like my dogs are not my children, they are my dogs. Dont get me wrong, I...

Missouri Chert Flint verses English Flint. Which is more reliable ?

Might want to consider next time to not do the test with your powder horn strapped to your body right next to the flash. Fleener

    Conical for bull elk

If you are new to conicals, be carful when hunting with them in that they dont slide off your powder column when you are hiking around hunting. Fleener

    Conical for bull elk

The peep sight folds down when not in use. You just got to make sure that if it is folded down, you dont take the staff into your eye when shooting the open sights. Open sights for closer work, peep sight set for longer range. Regarding wads, TOW has .50 cal wool wads that are lubed, or...

    Conical for bull elk

Like others have stated, you got to be more careful with a conical making sure you know your yardage, or you have a greater chance of having a bad shot. I like stated prior, try some wads if you are getting poor accuracy. You might be surprised on how it can shrink your groups. Fleener

    Conical for bull elk

In dim light a fully dilated pupil is 8 mm. Anything less than that size is restricting light coming into your eye. I seem to shoot most of my stuff right at last minute of the day when light is terrible. I love using a peep sight for both hunting and target work. Just like any sight, there...

    Conical for bull elk

Are you recoil sensitive? A .50 cal slug at 460 grains is not an overly heavy bullet. I know elk can be a tough animal to kill but think of all the millions of bison killed with a 45-70 and they can be a very tough animal to kill. How many grains of powder are you thinking of? What kind...

    Flinching?

take a .22 rifle with you to the range. Every once and a while shoot the .22 after the flintlock. You will see if you have developed a flinch. Fleener

    Traveling with a flintlock?

If you can check it as luggage that IMO would be best. Kinda all depends on how much checked luggage you will have. If you are bringing meat home, how do you plan on doing that? Take a look at your airlines checked luggage rules. I recently flew with a bag that was 98 lbs. Cost $240...

    Musket caps on Amazon.

The hazardous materials fee is not required by any government agency. That fee is something that shippers of hazardous materials arbitrarily charge the customer for the additional requirements of shipping hazardous materials, and it is not required. IMO at $24 a tin, shipping and HM fees are...

Amoskeag auctions, have you ever been?

I have bought from them, and never been to an auction in person. I rank them as the best aution house for accuratly describing their guns for sale. They do a great job of describing the bores, which Rock Island never does. Fleener

    Musket caps on Amazon.

Why do people find this odd that Amazon would be selling these? Also, with free shipping, why do you think that they are not transporting them correctly? At $24 a tin you are paying for shipping. Fleener
