    Twins

Picked up a .45 TC Hawken recently at the LGS. I wasn't really looking for one, but there it was on the rack and was in decent shape. The tag was $299.99, which probably would have been a good deal, but I lowballed them at $200 and to my shock they said yes. Here it is with it's .50 caliber...

    TC Barrel Markings

Hi. I recently picked up a .45 TC Hawken and it has a star stamped on the underside of the barrel. Anybody know what that means? Thanks.

    Decided to try something different...

...and bought a can of Ballistol to try as patch lube. That stuff smells like a dirty urinal with one of those hockey puck shaped deodorizer things in it. Nasty. :barf:

    Patch Cutter

Anybody know if someone manufactures a patch cutter that would allow me to make round patches out of pillow ticking for use with .530 round balls?

    Finished it!

http://i814.photobucket.com/albums/zz67/tmw1895/DSCN0564.jpg Finished my .54 GPR this evening. A few things here and there I could have done better, but overall I am pleased with the result. Can't wait to go burn some powder. Thanks to everyone for their tips and advice.

    LMF Stain

I finished sanding my GPR stock today and applied the stain. I like to give credit to good products when I encounter them. LMF stain is top notch.

    Plum Brown Over LMF

The finish on my GPR barrel was not even after using LMF despite 8 applications. I noticed after browning the rear sight in place with Birchwood Casey Plum Brown that the area where it overlapped the LMF on the barrel looked pretty good. I went ahead and used plum brown over the LMF on the...

    Rust Browning GPR Barrel

I am ready to rust brown my barrel using LMF. I built a little rack out of scrap lumber to put in my bathroom to hang the barrel from while the LMF does its stuff. I figure I will run the shower hot for a few minutes, shut it off, close the door, and let the rusting begin. That said, I want...

    Disassembling GPR Percussion Lock

I thought I would go ahead and install the Lyman lock on my GPR kit and see how I like it before I order an L&R lock. Has anybody ever disassembled one of these? I cannot see any obvious way to release the spring tension so it can be taken apart. I am used to seeing a pin hole in a guide rod...

Advice on Filing Markings off GPR Barrel

Any words of wisdom from folks who have done it before I jump in? Thanks!

    RPL Lock for GPR

I am thinking of upgrading the lock on the GPR I am building. Does anyone have experience with the L&R RPL lock in a GPR? I would also be interested in advice on drop-in replacement triggers if there are any out there. Thanks.

    LMF Stains

I have a question for the folks that have used LMF stains on walnut. Did you use it full strength or did you use the reducer to dillute it? Either way, pics of the results would be appreciated. Thanks.

    GPR Kit Arrived

My GPR kit arrived from Midway USA today. Is it normal for the buttplate, trigger assembly, lock, and nose cap/ramrod fitting to be installed on the stock already? If so, what do folks use to drive those tiny little pins out of the nose cap and ramrod fitting to remove them for polishing and...

    .54 Lyman Great Plains Kit

I just ordered one of the Lyman Great Plains Rifle kits in .54 caliber that MidwayUSA has on closeout. I've always wanted to build a blackpowder rifle, and with the closeout price, I decided the time had come. I'd appreciate any advice or pics from folks who have done this before me. Thanks.
