    Cleaning Civil War Muskets

War of Northern Aggression, it's what folks in the Southern States call the time back during the 1860's when our New York many times great Grandfathers among many other Northern Boys had to put their lives on hold, put on blue uniforms, shoulder said musket and take a long walk down south to put...

    Murdock pistol from Military heritage

I have several flinters from MVTco, all are vented, frizzens hardened, and there are no markings on them saying made in India.

    Got some lead, I think.

You can ship lead through the US mail with ease, I cast the lead into roughly one pound ingots such as the Lyman ingot mold produces, and can stack up to 24 pounds in one small $4.95 flat rate priority mail box ( box free at post office)The rules are that so long as it fits in the box and is...

    Pistol/revolver of choice...........

Civil War close combat, enemy right up on you? Who is going to have time to swap cylinders under those conditions? Enemy closing six feet away and you are breaking down a gun? 1860 Colt Army, because I can point shoot with it very well so if I get the chance to shoot six rounds six enemy are...

    Middlesex Village muskets

Well said, thank you. While I have the greatest respect for custom made guns and those with the skill to make such things I am only just getting into flintlocks after years of shooting BPCR and various cap locks. I don't know if I will stick with it in the long run and for me blow $1200, or...

    Middlesex Village muskets

I picked up the ships carbine last year, great little gun, no problems with it. Trigger was good out of the box but don't depend on that to happen with all of them, sparks well, and smacks the target almost all the time out to 75-80 yards, longest range I have tried with it.

    It's yun's guys fault

Yea, we all do it, in one week I added a Pietta '60 Army, and a Pietta '58 Remington .44 . Why did I do it? Just because they looked good.

    Hawes, LA,Cal.. Remmie .44

.The Hawes Firearms Co of Van Nuys CA was a big importer of various types of firearms in the 1950's into the 1970's. They made nothing themselves, but imported guns from Italy, Spain, Japan, and Germany. Everything from cheap .25 pocket pistols to high quality .44 magnum revolvers and large...

    Middlesex Village muskets

All made in India, Pete and Wendy are nice people, very helpfull, shoot Pete a email if you have questions about a gun, or Wendy to find out if it's in stock. Their muskets all spark well, and none of mine have had any problems. They are not top of the line, that would be the custom made US...

    Home defense

Shotguns are what everybody I know used going back a few generations anyway, I use a Ruger .357 magnum, and a Winchester 1897 Trench gun, the real thing, not a Chinese knock off, because as was said above, if your life depends on it , it should be something worth depending on! I know a C&B...

    new toy at last

I see the pics now, I missed them earlier, very nice  I am not sure what medium grade would be here in the states, I use Goex powder, and when things get tight I will use whatever black powder I can find. I ordered 50 pounds of Goex in various grades so I am set for a bit I hope...

    new toy at last

My neighbors wife comes from a farm in a place called Devon ( not sure of the spelling) I have heard her complain long and loud about what she had to go through to own a shotgun back home. I hear it every time I haul a new gun back from the flea market or junk store with no paperwork hassels...

    1860 Army

Uberti would be my pick, I bought one from Dixie about ten years back and I am able to hit a 4" .22 cal rifle target with it at 75 yards shooting a .454 round ball with 30 grains of FFFG black powder and a wonder wad. With most handguns I can't hit the side of a barn, but with this one it just...

Return or Keep - Which Would You Do ?

I have been lucky with my LeMat and Starr DA so far, I have had them since 2000-2001 or so with no problems. I don't shoot them all that much as I prefer the lighter Colt 1860, or '51, both Uberti, I have put maybe 400 rounds all told through them. They are interesting display pieces but I...

    Muzzleloader vs Modern

I am a military surplus rifle collector and a few years back I was shooting an average 120 rounds a day on my own range, double that or more on the weekends. That was then, this is now, ammo prices have shot through the roof, even the cost of components for reloading has gone sky high so I have...

    What started it all?

Pietta 1851 Colt "Reb" revolver with brass frame many moons ago. I own several of these and they all look pretty much the same, I think this was number one sometime in the early 1980's
