Just a couple hunting stories. 1st- .50 conical

The second buck was my son being born. Meaning he was my special buck. I'm sorry I didn't word it correctly. Happy Easter treestalker. My other story was going to be about the deer I got with my .54...in another special way. My first prb deer!

Just a couple hunting stories. 1st- .50 conical

Thanks jrmflintlock! I'm sorry I'm not a good story teller, but I thought some might enjoy it. As far as picures go... Photobucket seems to have lost the only ones I had of the deer. But!... I did get a tattoo on my forearm of a drawing of the rack with my sons name under it! I ended up with two...

Just a couple hunting stories. 1st- .50 conical

2003. First week of November. My son was due to be born anytime. Might be the one and only hunt of the season. My wife at the time said it's now or never! The weather forecast wasn't good, and conditions outside were worse. My buddies thought I was crazy! I got my stuff ready the night before...

    Arizona...you seem to understand.

    .32 PRB for Mountain Lion

It sucks to see a good dog ripped stem to stern looking at you waiting for you to fix them. Nothing you can do.

    .32 PRB for Mountain Lion

I'm not sure you guys understand the ramifications of a treed cat. They are very tenacious. And kill! To take them lightly is a mistake. You definitely need to respect those teeth and claws! For me...in a tree or not... A .50 or .54 with 90- 100g of 3f is the way to get the job done. Cougars are...

.58 swap in barrel options for a Deerstalker

Thanks for the insight BB. Do you think the stock could be modified to accommodate a custom barrel?

.58 swap in barrel options for a Deerstalker

    4F powder

Can you please explain corning? I'm very curious.

    4F powder

What if all they had was 1f available?

    4F powder

Great information. I was just curious. Another question... Wouldn't it still go bang? I'm just trying to put my mindset of what our forefathers might have done.

    4F powder

Gotcha azmntman! I said it was a dumb question. I could just see them making their own priming powder out of 2f while relaxing in the evening...everyone needs to relax while getting ready for the next day.

    4F powder

I have a really stupid question... Back in the day, couldn't they have just used a stick, or antler to gently grind their powder to prime? Seriously, just asking

    Original 1800's percussion rifle

I respond to this only because I do not want anyone getting hurt shooting an unsafe barrel. I am a machinist with over fifteen years experience working with different kinds of metals. Magnafluxing uses positive and negative charges to attract the magnafluxing medium which adheres to cracks and...

    Original 1800's percussion rifle

Not to step on toes but magnafluxing will only reveal cracks in the barrel. It will not tell you if the barrel is sound to shoot. Especially from a metallurgical stand point. Just my .02 wbj

Good advice Paul. I hated taking a file and hammer to it, but once I got it together, boy was I happy! What a sharp looking and good feeling gun! I will take it apart this evening and see what the problem is. Thanks again. wbj

Iv'e got a wedge pin prob. Need Help!

Well, I called Lyman this morning just to see what they would say. They were very nice and told me to file the top of the left plate, and that if I wasnt comfortable with that, they would make other arrangements. I told them I would try but I didnt want to void the warranty, they said it would...

Iv'e got a wedge pin prob. Need Help!

Well, thanks for the help guys. I appreciate it. I have tried all the advice I have been given, minus any modifications, to no avail. I am not sure what to try first, filing the escutcheon or putting a slight bend in the wedge. Decisions, decisions. wbj
