My bags to be shown on the History Channel!

I hope this post is allowed. If it gets deleted, I understand. I work with leather, mostly making black powder, or "possibles bags". I recently sold several that will be aired on the History channel. It will be called "History of the Texas Rangers" after the Alamo through to the formation of...

    Hoppens Allen

I just saw a .50 cal. Hopkins Allen for $125. I may talk to the store because it needs a little stock work, and I'm not sure about the barrel until I take a ram rod and jag to see if the bore is OK. But $125 doesn't seem too bad, right now at least. I've never owned one and am not sure on...

    Revised Bag

After listening to comments about my bag, I made a few changes. I cut stitching and added a red wool blanket insert. Gone is the shinny red leather, and the terrible shade of red. I also cut the pouch back stitches and corrected a mistake there. Now, the flap hangs even. The only thin left...

    DeHaas Barrels

I am going to be building a new rifle soon and would like to know if anyone has experience with DeHaas. I have two rifles with H&H barrels, (the original owner) and know the steel type has changed. H&H had the toughest steel on the market.

    History of The Loading Block

Does anyone have accurate information on when loading blocks were first used? I have a book, "The Kentucky Rifle Hunting Pouch", by Madison Grant which may date the loading block to around 1780.

    Stupid is as Stupid Does

Ever had the feeling that when you get out of bed, nothing goes right? I just hardened my frizzen which had not thrown the sparks I think it should throw. I test fired a couple of pans of prime and decided to go outside to see if I had a good, quick fire or a delay. I rammed a ball down the...

    Disappointing Gun Show

I Went to the local gun show today. One booth had a flintlock which was probably worth maybe $350~400, but he was asking $2000. He said the makers name, which meant nothing to me, but it was nothing special, no inlays or carving, just a plain rifle. What was very interesting was the huge vent...

    Diamond Black Powder

I know this had been asked before, but how does Diamond BP compare to the other real BP's? Please do not include any substitute in the topic.

    Damascus

I will be taking blacksmith lessons sometime this spring. When making damascus steel, what is sprinkled between the layers before folding it over?

    Black Mag XP

Has anyone heard of or tried Black Mag XP? I read about it in the Feb. 2010 issue of Muzzle Blasts magazine. It is supposed to be acceptable in flintlocks as both the main charge and pan powder.
