    Range report

Well, I made it to the range today to try out my Danny Caywood Jug Choked barrel I got back a couple of weeks ago. It DID make a difference! I tried several loads with 3F Swiss and the SKY Chief methods. My old 62 cal like it as did my 12. This 16 did not for some reason. Could be due to the...

    Jug Choke

Just got my barrel back from Caywood. Turn around was pretty quick, about 8 or 9 days after they received it. If it ever stops raining I'm going to try it out!

    Renaissance Wax

I use Wahkon Bay Tru Coat on my rifles. I believe it has a linseed oil base. After many coats, and after its dry, will the Renaissance Wax stick?

    Brass 40 cal mold

Good catch! I had not noticed that the holes were two sizes. Have to wait till I cast to see what they actually cast, but looks like it might be .395 and .400 or .400 and .410.

    Brass 40 cal mold

Thanks. We'll see if they leak after cleaning with acetone or some such. Would you happen to know who might have made the mold? Somehow, they remind me of a mold that might have come with an Italian repro of some sort.

    Brass 40 cal mold

Picked up this interesting brass mold in 40 cal. I think its probably modern. How would one use it? I suppose it lies flat on a surface, the lead is poured in to two holes, wait a minute, turn it over and pour the other two holes, wait a bit, turn the handle until it will come apart, dump the...

    16 Gauge starting load

Thanks Dave. I'll start with this one. 3FG? I was thinking I would need to use my Swiss 2 F or 1.5F but I have plenty of 3F and I'll certainly try it!

    16 Gauge starting load

Thanks all. I plan to use it for turkey hunting this spring so I've a little time. I think I'll have a lot of fun with this one.

    16 Gauge starting load

Now that I've sent the barrel off to get jug choked, what would you guys suggest as a starting load using say, No. 5 shot? Never had any experience with a 16 ga before. This should be fun.

    Jug Choke

Thanks for all of the great responses! I called Danny Caywood and listened to his thoughts and advice and decided that is where I'd get the work done. Just got back from the Fed Ex store and the barrel is on the way! Thanks again!

    Jug Choke

Besides Danny Caywood, does anyone know of anyone who jug chokes? Would like to just send the barrel if possible. 16 Guage.

Best I can do at present.

    New Smoothbore

I have a new smoothbore in 16 ga. Before, with my 20, I was shooting a skychief load using 80 gr of 2F and 80 gr of #6 shot ( about 11/4 oz). Does anyone use a 16 for turkey? Should I keep the same load or increase powder and shot. Suggested volumes ?

Good idea Richard, I'll try a short, light, simple tune on the old belt sander!

    Nipples for my SXS

I haven't a clue as how to tell what size this old shotgun might take. The consensus here is British, 1845-1855 or thereabouts. I'd like to have a set that fits size 11 caps if possible. The ones that are on it are not original to the gun I'd say and the No. 11 Remington's and CCI's are a super...

    Why the "Skychief" load works?

OK..hunted all day yesterday in and out of rain. No birds. Not going again until next Friday. I decided to pull the loads to see what kind of shape they were in. The oil soaked fiber wad came out fine. On one side, it came out whole and the other side it came out in two halves. The over shot...
