    Powder can spouts

I tried a spout/lid for a Goex metal can and it fit on a plastic Schuetzen can perfectly.

    Rapid Loading?

Lewis Wetzel was well known for being able to load his rifle while in a dead run, a skill that saved his bacon on numerous occasions. The NDNs called him "the man who's gun is always loaded". I never have been able to find an explanation of how he accomplished this feat.

    Blue Heron Mercantile

Anyone ordered from these guys lately? I've ordered in the past with no problems. I made a small online order in October and got an immediate confirmation. After a month I sent an email inquiry and have yet to get a reply. They never charged my card at least. I was just wondering if anyone...

Cotton knit or cotton flanel cleaning patches, your favorite?

I'm extra cheap. I use "retired" flannel sheets and pillow cases for patches. After I use them I throw them into a net bag and put them in the laundry.

    squire Boone thomahawk

I don't know what the SB hawk looks like but you may want to take a look at the Cold Steel Pipe Hawk. It's really a poll axe that looks like a pipe hawk. I'm very happy with mine.

    bacon grease and beeswax lube

Seems that I read on one of these forums a while back that if you boil the bacon grease in water that the salt will settle out and leave pure grease on top. Does that sound right?

Changed my mind. Want to shoot wads instead of patches.

I was about to suggest something similar teakmtn. One can even load one over the other if you're out and are not sure what size game you're apt to encounter. That way you're ready for whatever target you are presented with. On a blog I frequent the writer suggests doing just that.

Davey Crockett,s rifle donated to a museum !

Phil Collins is a big Alamo history buff. I understand that he had the largest collection of Alamo artifacts in private hands. He just up and donated it all to the Alamo. There was a lot more than a gun, a bag, and a knife.

    custom round ball molds

Jeff Tanner molds are priced reasonably and you will be surprised how quickly you receive them.

    concussion ignition?

Don't try this at home kids. I just put a small amount of 4F Geox between two pieces of packing tape, put it on my anvil and hit it with a hammer. Nothing. I finally hit it so hard I busted my hammer though. :(

    correct patching for a smoothbore

There have been some posts here in the past concerning "chewed balls" being shot bare ball in smoothbores. This is where one rolls the balls between two wood rasps to roughen up the surface. I believe that doing this actually raises the surface of the balls slightly, in effect making the balls...

    Breach Plug Sraper

I've always had one. I used it more of a tester to see if my gun was clean. After cleaning I would use it and it always came back clean. Once I got confident in my cleaning ritual I quit using it. I still keep it, just in case.

    Cleaning 150/200 years ago

A thread similar to this came up a while back on another site. I wondered myself about cleaning when you were living in a situation where having an unloaded gun would never feel comfortable. One of the HC/PC gods opined that even though one was in Indian country, there wasn't an Indian hiding...

    Wad lube recipe

I believe that a common wad lube is a 50/50 mix of olive oil and melted bees wax. Some use more of one or the other. You can sub peanut oil or something similar. Some seem to think that it's a waste to dip the whole wad in the lube and only lube the edges. I feel that if you dip the whole...

    antique flints?

Several years ago Nepal decided to start selling military surplus for the first time in their history. It's my understanding that they had literally millions of flints bought for use in their Brown Bess Muskets. They are old stock but they are by no means rare. I have some I got free from...

    flint

For what's it's worth, I bought a dozen of the American flints from Muzzleloader Builders Supply. They are not as uniform in size or shape as the others but they all look useable. Some are very good. The one I've tried sparks well. They're only $1.00 each and they're knapped by young people...

    Making a RB mold.

I would just like to know where I could purchase a ball mold cherry that would cut a .610 hole. At an affordable (for me) price of course. :idunno:

Making and shooting military paper cartridges

Sorry I don't have any ready references handy, but I've always been under the impression that British officers considered aiming at and killing individuals on the battlefield to be murder. Or maybe it was just if the shooter was aiming at them. The Colonials, although British, didn't...

    New Movie The Revenant?

The sad part is that whoever the star is we're all destined to see the movie no matter who the star is, simply due to the subject matter. Our addiction must be fed no matter how poor the quality of the drug available. :haha:

    New Movie The Revenant?

Decaprio? I would think that to portray a historical figure who was actually tough as rawhide, they could have at least picked a man who pees standing up! :rotf:
