    CCI #10 Caps

A few months ago my son bought some #10 CCI caps for me in Texas. He knew I needed 10s but he didn't know CCI caps were different from Remington #10s. I was thankful he was able to find caps of any size but once I got home with them I found they won't work very well in my Pietta 1851 Navy. Even...

    Old Flintlock Rifle Parts Found

First of all. I’m sorry for the quality of these photos. These parts are inside a shadow box that was built for me so I’d have to take it apart to get better pics. I’ve been wanting to send these for some time. Hopefully I haven’t done it already years ago and forgot. HaHa. My grandfather...

Deer Hunting with a Ruger Old Army

I’ve never hunted with a handgun before, but I am considering trying it this year. I think my Ruger old army would be a fun place to start as I rarely hunt with modern weapons. The only loads I’ve ever fired from it were 25 grains of 3FG with a .457 round ball. I know I will probably need a...

    The Story channel today.

I messed up and originally posted this in the wrong area. I don’t have cable tv but with my antenna I get The Story channel. I just watched the Adventures of Daniel Boone. Now watching the biography of Davy Crockett. I think Lewis and Clark come on a little later. I’ve watched a number of...

I bought the best caps ever made.

At least they must be for what I paid for them. There’s a black powder and muzzleloading store that was in Orlando FL but now in Sanford. I have a friend that lives near it so I asked him to stop by and see if they have #10 caps. I live 2 hours away. He was to call me when he arrived in the...

    Making a tapered/flared end ramrod

About 20 + years ago I built this John Armstrong style rifle from parts I bought from Pecatonica River. I was fairly new to gun building and didn’t have the help of forums and internet to guide me. Only a book. As hard as I tried to make it slender as possible I should’ve taken a bit more from...

    Ball Pullers

In all the years I have enjoyed shooting back powder I have only tried twice to pull a round ball. Both unsuccessfully. I’ve only tried one type of ball puller. It’s one that I bought many years ago that had the brass centering collar on it. It’s probably from TC or CVA. It doesn’t start...

    Front Sight Help

There have been several threads about those of us with damaged or aging eyes and the ability or lack of it to see our sights. Some may recall that I posted a story over a year ago about me having surgery to repair a macular hole in my right eye. Since the surgery I can see but the doc says I’ll...

    GA 10 pt.

I got lucky last week and took this buck with my Kibler .54. I was thrilled.

    Old ball mold

A friend of mine gave this to me. He found it in his grandfathers barn. I sure wish I knew it’s history.

Replace Front Sight on my Kibler

Referring back to our earlier thread about not being able to see front sights. I’m thinking of ordering another blade sight from TOW. Not sure it’ll help me since I have retina damage and things are distorted with missing parts. But I think if I replace the original blade (Jim says it’s about...

    Patches always torn

Hello everyone. I know we’ve all read posts about patches and lubes until some are tired of seeing them. But here’s mine. My .54 flintlock has given me problems since birth. The attached photo shows how they all look after being shot. I’ve tried pillow ticking. Store bought .018 cotton patches...

    Bending a hammer

Hi folks. This may not be an issue but now that I’ve noticed it I have to make sure it’s not or it’ll drive me crazy looking at it. I built this .54 cap gun over 20 years ago. It’s always been a good shooter and I don’t remember having many misfires due to caps not going off. But it has...

    Tower Flintlock Pistol

I recently acquired this Tower pistol. I know nothing about it other than what I’ve read on this forum. After making sure it wasn’t loaded I tried a small Rich Pierce flint to see if it would spark as I read the frizzens are sometimes not hardened enough. This flint was the closest I have. No...

    Pietta 1851 cylinder issue

I’m still new to BP revolvers so I’m still learning about the part names, disassembly and other things. Last night I realized the cylinder was getting in a little bind at certain points in the rotation. After I worked with it I found it was due to the wedge key being pushed in a little too far...

    Fishing weights for casting RB

Hi everyone. I recently acquired a one gallon can of various chunks of lead. Including in this are lots of pyramid sinkers. The ones with brass wire rings on top for attaching line. Im new to casting bullets so my question is have any of you melted lead with brass wire inside ? Is there a...

    Old locks.

A friend was cleaning out an old building and found these locks. He asked if I wanted them. Of course I do. I’ll send better pics once I get my hands on them. This is the only photo I have now. I can barely see writing on the plate of one but can’t tell what it says. Does anyone have any...

    2F in pistols

I don’t think I’ve ever read about anyone using 2F in pistols. I know most generally use 3F powder but do any of you shoot 2F powder in cap and ball revolvers ? With the latest powder issued I’m concerned as I have more 2F than 3F. I can’t see why it wouldn’t work just fine.

    Pietta 1851 Navy cylinder jams

Hello everyone. Twice now while shooting this pistol I’ve had the cylinder lock up. These were not cap jams. I had to remove the barrel and cylinder to get it unlocked. Neither the hammer or cylinder would move a bit. Has anyone else dealt with this and whet can I do to fix it. Thanks.
