    .36 Caliber Fans?

It's not bad. The claimed weight is 7 pounds, though the ones I've handled felt maybe a little heavier, but not a whole lot. A full custom with a A-profile barrel would probably get a little lighter and better balanced, but the Pedersoli isn't bad.

    .36 Caliber Fans?

The .36 isn't a bad caliber at all, provided you go with a lighter barrel. I like my .36, but it is heavy because it was the same barrel a .45 or .50 would use, but bored smaller. The result is a very heavy barrel and a nose-heavy gun. My .36 fouls faster than my .50 or larger bores. It is very...

    .50 Smoothbore Thoughts.

That could well be. I know some of the manufacturers use the same barrels for a wide range of calibers to save costs. I have a .36 barrel that could very well be bored up to .50 with no problem, and it makes for a very heavy gun in .36.

    .50 Smoothbore Thoughts.

The result would handle and feel like a smoothbore rifle more than a fowling piece or shotgun because of the architecture of the gun. Some people like that, some prefer the fowling piece or shot gun style for a smoothbore, all-purpose gun. You have to ask yourself how well the gun fits you and...

    LOP Issues

My experience is length-of-pull, drop, and cast all matter and they have a cumulative effect because the sighting moves in three dimensions when you changed those measurements. Very small differences in length-of-pull, in my experience, do not matter a whole lot, but when you start talking...

    WITHDRAWN See New Listing

BigSky did right by me just a couple months ago - he was prompt and courteous the whole way. I think this may have just been a case of an off-the-beam malcontent hijacking a thread.

    Shipping Restricted

Is the point of this thread to inform others of your own shipping policy, or are you trying to make a representation of the laws of these jurisdictions? That a shop has any particular policies on shipping does not necessarily mean that policy is the law of a jurisdiction. It is misleading to...

    Lack of younger shooters?

The way I got involved was that I was immersed in early American history as a child. I grew up in a house built and owned by a man who had been a Captain in the local militia during the War of 1812, and my parents used to take my brother and me on the local "old house tour" sort of thing. Like...

Slow progress on my .40 build.

It's looking nice. I love my Dremel - so many uses for it with the various bits and attachments you can get. It's also my go-to for cleaning hard-to-reach areas of rust on metal parts (using one of the various wire brushes they make).

    dry balled

There is the Girandoni air rifle, which was supposedly like .46-.51 cal. range.

Well I guess im jumping in to flints

Break it down to one task at a time. You're not "building a gun", and you're not trying to get done as soon as possible. Instead you are doing a particular task or step on a given day. Focus on doing that one task to the best of your ability. Do the same with the next step the following day...

    dry balled

As long as you clear it safely, no harm no foul. When we used to do club shoots, we'd require people using a compressor or those little CO2 chargers to clear the bore down range. They can pop the ball out with surprising force. They worked well with the percussion guns though. With the...

    Shooting brassers loose.....

I shot with a guy who had one loosen up somewhat. It was a .44cal Navy style and he was consistently shooting full chamber loads (powder, ball, grease - no filler or space). It did not just fall apart or anything ridiculous, but it developed play is all. I've known several shooters who had brass...

    Range Shooting Box

I have that style of box in Walnut and it's a great choice. It's small enough to be portable but large enough to handle most of the stuff you'll need.

    Kibler

Too bad, it would be a nice additional option to the usual ones.

    Kibler

Do they sell any left-handed kits or at least a righty kit with symmetrical stock? I looked on the website and did not see anything, but several pages say the website is not complete.

    Italian made flintlocks

The flintlock rifle examples from Pedersoli I have seen are reasonably well-made. Every so often you get one with a soft frizzen or which just doesn't seem to spark well, but most are alright. Compared to the custom and semi-custom rifles made in the US, the Pedersolis seemed to run a little...

Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World Appreciation Post

Great movie. Saw it in a nice theater with surround sound with my girlfriend at the time when it first came out.

    Nock Volley Gun

Very true. The Rifle Shoppe kits offer some very unique parts and firearms but kind of a more advanced undertaking. Yours looks like it came out great.

    Lack of younger shooters?

Drawing in a new shooter is not easy. Muzzle loading is a very small niche hobby within another hobby (shooting sports, hunting, etc.). You need to find a person not only with a draw toward fire arms and shooting sports, but one who wants to move into this relatively small niche with an even...
