    Bout ready to pull trigger

I prefer black but the "p" will do. You're gonna find that cap to nipple fit is a manure shoot-what fits one revolver might not fit another (when talking factory nipples), and the manufacturers haven't agreed on a standardized cap size. A #10 or 11 cci has different dimensions than the remmies...

    Sealed caps

I tried using primer sealant on my revolver, almost identical to nail polish. It killed the compound in my caps and took up to two refires to finally touch off some of the chambers. Seemed like a good idea at the time, but I'm glad I found out about it at the range and not elsewhere.

    Cooper .31 DA

You need a blue book for antique guns. Border's used to have them before they closed up shop. IIRC the old cooper arms was in NY.

    Cooper .31 DA

Tried to get one myself on gunbroker but the reserve was just way too high, even though the offerings were in good shape. I've always thought the Cooper was ripe for a repop from uberti or pietta, I'd buy one in a heartbeat.

We lost a member - Paul Vallandigham

Nothing I can add that hasn't been said, except that I enjoyed our PM correspondence for the short time I've been here. RIP!

    Heads Up

Graf's is a mail order outfit in Mexico, MO. They do counter sales too, but the drive would be a bit much. If it's the same sale I mentioned before, graf's is 11.99 a pound right now.

    Hot Weather Lube

I like that and I'll give it a try if I ever have enough. I eat bacon rarely enough that I never have more than a spoonful or two though, and added in a can full of crisco and paraffin the salt level is pretty darn low. More often I add it to candles as I burn alot of 'em to keep the heat bill...

    Hot Weather Lube

I take it from unsliced bacon I buy by the slab from my butcher, but yep-not as salty though. In the concentrations I'm using it no corrosion has been created but it's not essential to use in my mix if that concerns you. I just use it as a dispensing aid in an effort to not let anything go to...

    Hot Weather Lube

One campbell's soup can, one to one and a half bricks of canning paraffin added to half the can full of crisco, a few spoonfuls of bacon grease if you have some on hand. Melt it on your stove grate at the lowest setting. Draw into a few 99 cent oral syringes, and dispense when it cools. It...

    dragoon nipple help?

I bought the gun this summer and I don't think it's old stock. Looks like I'll try the TOTW nipples. I'm looking to standardize all my pistols to take the same size cap. I can find #10's around here but #11 is much easier to come by. Pietta is just as bad with nipples as Uberti; my eighteen...

    2f or 3f?

I agree with Zonie on all counts except one: I get flash rusting with pyrodex no matter how soon I clean my guns. I've tried adjusting soap concentration, water temperature, drying methods etc., but for me it has been unavoidable. I have two pounds of pyro left that I'm burning through, and...

    Powder shelf life?

Glad to help, but really do recommend that you try the Graf's. I try to support made in the USA but it's a good substitute. Stable? More than I am after eating white castle.

Starting point for my .44 G&G

I think 15 would be a little light, but I wouldn't go past 20 or so with a brasser myself-if it were steel I'd use about 25 grains in comparison, excluding walkers/dragoons/ROA's. 2f will work but my experience is 3f burns cleaner in these, YMMV. The ball or conical should be dead soft pure...

do you guys go this far?

With my very first revolver, I had never cleaned the internals. I was an 18 year old whippersnapper that never was taught to do so. After 10+ years (probably 15) I finally did it-the mechanism was full of a grayish muck I would describe as a mixture of gun oil and what appeared to be graphite...

Ditto that. Where did you find the bird's head? I've never seen one offered before.

    dragoon nipple help?

I've been trying to find a set of treso nipples for my uberti 3rd model dragoon (very recent purchase). Looked at the usual suspects like dixie and the possibles shop, and both are out of stock. Dixie even rejected my backorder attempt. TOTW has replacements listed as "fits most...

    GRAF Black Powder

Lots of info here with a search and elsewhere on the web on Graf's. I usually buy Goex to support jobs in the USA, but Graf's is good stuff. Graf's was out of 3f when I last checked two weeks or so ago, but had their house brand in stock and on sale for 11.99 a pound-made my choice pretty...

    artist's license

Oh my, the last time I saw one of those episodes you weren't born yet-makes me feel old. Anyhoo, I believe what you speak of is an exaggeration of the blunderbuss, what most consider to be the predecessor of the shotgun as we know it from the 19th century to present. The three stooges were...

    Powder shelf life?

Take a look at Graf's powder. They have a sale going for 11.99 per pound of fff minus hazmat fees, so I stocked up. They will also combine smokeless and primers/caps in the order now. I like their powder just as much as goex. I have plenty of fff on hand but at that price I just couldn't...
