    powdered paint pigment

I was reading some time ago in muzzle blasts about adding powdered paint pigment to slow dry two part epoxy to fill in any small inletting gaps. Does any one out there know where I can get some and could use some more info on how to go about using it. Thanks.

Naval jelly, gray finish and. . .

It is probably a cheap carbon steel, try a little LMF brown on it and if it rusts it is not chromed, and then you can take off the rust with a fine wire wheel jacked in your drill or use some BWC rust and blue remover. There are tons of ways to put a grayish patina on carbon steel. All of the...

Naval jelly, gray finish and. . .

Another idea, that I use on my knives and bright white gun parts to give them an "I've been around awhile appearance is to give the metal a coat of LMF rust brown, then take it off with BWC rust and blue remover. Hit it in a few spots with 4F steel wool. Kind of gives steel a nice patina IMHO.

I have been using spit patches for the past few years for target shooting, like Zonie said, I would not want to leave one in a barrel long nor would I use them for hunting, but I got tired of trying all of the YOU JUST GOTTA TRY THIS NEW STUFF IT'S THE GREATEST, from all of the advertisers and...

    B weight 50 cal. loads

Hi 54 Ball, Ya I wish now that I would have gotten that barrel in 45 Cal., it would have given me a little more room to spare, the kit came with the lug and front sight mortises already cut, but on the front sight I got a bit too aggressive and cut one corner way too deep. Any ways if the people...

    B weight 50 cal. loads

HI again Mike, What you said about most of the pressure being spent around the first 12" is true enough, but I will expose myself here with a little embarrassment to my self. I am definitely a rookie when it comes to rifle building and the point I am most concerned about is the sight that was...

    B weight 50 cal. loads

HI Mike, If this is the Mike Brooks that is a well known builder, I would like to here more. The waist I believe is is .750 and with the barrel having 4 lugs pre inlet and a sight with a .625 base, well you can do the math and that leaves a net total of no error in the inletting of your dove...

    Kits/component sets

Dave, you used these loads in a B weight 50 cal barrel? How many times did you shoot it with 90 grs.? And how well did your deer go down with 75 grs. and what distance did you take them at. Would you feel comfortable out to 100 yrds. taking a deer sized animal with this load? Hope you answer...

The Mountain man and Hugh Glass DVD's?

Can any one tell me where I might get copies of the mountain men with C. Heston? And the Hugh Glass story or I think it was. I saw it back in the 70's and not into muzzle loading at the time I am not sure if it was the Hugh Glass story or another, although I do remember I was riveted to the movie.

    Jeremiah Johnson.....

The time period I believe was the late 40's after the fur trade, and I believe cap lock rifles were well accepted by that time. Carson, Madena, and from what I understand Jim Bridger owned a Hawken in his later times in the Rockies.

    Muzzle Blasts cover May 2010

I agree, great painting, my only question is that I am not sure that is a pull over, it looks more like an open front hunting shirt. I too would like to have one like it, or one like Mark Bakers or curry's. I wrote recently in the clothing section about long hunter shirts and nobody suggested a...

    Kits/component sets

In response to billd,DaveK and Birddog6 since all of you guys have used 50 cal. B weight barrels, could you please tell me what target loads you are currently using? My 50's seem to prefer 3F and the statement that came with the kit said do not use this, only 2F. Birddog6 the reason there is a...
