    TVM Late Lancaster First Shots

Welcome to The Muzzleloading Forum, Greg. That's a very nice rifle Matt built for you. I have a couple of them and they've seen lots of shooting and hunting. Yours' is obviously a very good shooter. What was the target distance? Can you give us some info about that nice rifle such as...

    Kibler .32 Caliber SMR….

As far as any fouling issue is concerned I've never had one and I've been shooting a .32 for a long time. It's probably because I shoot tight loads which "clean" the bore each time a prb is seated. I shoot a .311" ball with a .024" canvas patch. Since I no longer hunt I lube with Hoppes BP...

    Kibler .32 Caliber SMR….

ETipp, I believe both you and I share similar opinions when it comes to the .32 & .36. My best load for my .32 SMR so far is 20 grains of Swiss 3F although the tiny caliber seems to shoot very well with about any load I pour into the bore. My experience so far indicates that the .32 and .36...

    Why .40 cal?

I used mine for targets and plinking. They are just about perfect for varmints (smaller than deer) and even deer where legal. They are usually very accurate, can give high velocities, generally lighter rifles and are very gently and fun to shoot.

    No jokes?

    That's okay; I don't have a sense of humor I'm aware of.

    Flintlock muzzleloaders will rule again

    Hmmm...That thought kinda sucks!

    Kibler .32 Caliber SMR….

I killed enough squirrels with a Crockett years ago to convince myself it doesn't make a mess of small game. I have both a .32 SMR and a .36 SMR but no longer hunt small or large game. There are two things that govern whether or not your rifle is a grenade launcher or a laser: the load and...

    Odd But Cool

Cool? Yes! Interesting? Yes! Odd? You betcha! It needs to be fired some and that will tell a lot.

    .45 Caliber: Deer?

Most, by far, of my hunting was done in Georgia. Long shots are rare unless one hunts in a field. My average distance likely didn't exceed 25 to 30yards. But shots from just a few feet to over 100 yards were successful. The last buck I killed in the Georgia woods was walking toward the front...

Caliber for a muzzleloader rifle for bird hunting

Actually anything from a .32 and up will do what you ask.

    Who's got the best lube?

There are easily dozens of "lubes" from bear oil down to plain water that will work very well or to some degree or another. I don't hunt any longer so really don't have a need for the TOW mink oil I like so much. But I really like Hoppes BP Lube and have used it extensively for years. Today...

    .45 Caliber: Deer?

By no stretch of the imagination is the .45 round ball "marginal". Most of the deer I've killed with BP were killed with a couple of .45 rifles and .440" prb. All were one shot kills and none were lost. The farthest was 75 yards and the .45 did a clean job. Other calibers such as the .50...

I am sorry about my posts on casting

I've cast tens of thousands of balls with both ladle and with bottom pour. Not difficult just requires careful attention.

    Advice on getting started crafting.

Yes, it's easy. If you're like me you may do crude but very functional work to start with. I never improved beyond that level but it all has worked as intended.

    Powder Inc.

I've ordered from them before with complete satisfaction. In fact I've never had a problem ordering from any powder vendor, but stuff does happen.

Swiss is great powder but the cost is a real barrier. Very good comparison, by the way.

    Kibler's .32 caliber SMR.

I loved the Crockett and found it perfect for squirrels and the accuracy was astonishing. I also have a .36 SMR (not a Kibler) and find I reach for it more often than my .32 SMR (TVM). The .36 can do as well as the .32 on small game but can "beef up" and take larger varmints. If you already...
