    re finishing 1858 uberti

Long story short, I have an 1858 replica that has no finish on it. Did the original Remington's come with a rust blue finish? Although I think it would be a huge undertaking, I might try to rust blue this pistol. Thanks for the advice.

Staining maple on a Kentucky pistol

Looking for some opinions on what would be a good color for the wood on my kentucky pistol? I am browning the barrel. The lock and hammer are case color hardend and all other parts are brass. The stock is very plain maple. Not sure what stain and ammount of staining would look best on this...

    What's a fowler?

Thank you for mentioning the book. I have been looking for literature on the subject. What were some common gauges? It seems that most people today choose 20ga so it can also shoot a prb. What about 12's, 10's, and 8's? Were the larger gauges common?

    Day on the water

The ITX seems to work well, but if I had a modern barreled sxs I would use steel. Steel works fine and is much cheaper.

    ITX load 12ga sxs

thanks for the tip paul! Brown Bear, when you used to use lead #6's did the pellets normally pass through? How about the ITX #4? I should also add that I am using an 1870's belgium made sxs 12ga 33" barrels and no choking in either barrel.

    ITX load 12ga sxs

The goal was to find a nice load for #4 ITX shot to use on waterfowl. I weighed the shot by weight (not by volume). By volume, 1-1/8oz of ITX is about 110grns as oposed to lead at 80grns. 80grns 2FF, over powder card, fiber cusion wad, 1-1/8 of ITX shot (by weight), and an over shot card...

    New Remmie range report

very intresting! on a side note: It seems like there would be a good market for an American reproduction company specializing in quality blackpowder firearms made to origanal specs (unless there is already one i am unaware of?). I always feel funny about owning American reproduction firearms...

    New Remmie range report

I have both uberti and pietta new army and the uberti is defenatly a nicer gun. The pietta had sharp burrs on many of the parts that needed to be smothed out. Both shoot great and have no problems otherwise. Reffering back to your first post about the cylenders being so undersized that the 451...

    Removing Stuck Nipple?

the drill bit method would work, but its risky. Best to be patient and use KanoKroil or similar product. By puting a drop a day on stuck nipples untill they loosen, I have been able to remove the nipples on two of my freinds revolvers that they purchased neglected. A good nipple wrench is a must...
