    Pheasant hunting

I’m planning my first attempt at pheasant hunting and using a muzzleloader shotgun, all on the same day. The gun shoots a decent pattern and has been reliable. Any tips or hints from the experienced hunters?

First build. Half stock 20 ga. Fowler

Found a period piece I really like, so using it as a guide for my build. Figured you need a lock to build a flintlock, so why not build the lock too. I found these 2 locks, both partially started. Bottom is what they looked like when I opened the box, top is a few days later, and being lucky...

    More to learn

I apologize in advance for any stupid questions. A Beretta 12 ga muzzleloader followed me home today and stupid owner needs to learn care and feeding. My primary goal is turkey season in 5 weeks, followed by patched round balls because it just sounds fun. I have messed a little with a CVA...

    Starting over with the Hawken

After reading lots of posts, it was time to try out some stuff. I tried out .010 vs .015 patches with the new lubing technique and wiping between shoots. .015 seemed better and the guy next to me asked how it shot at 50 yards. So I tried it It was pouring today, going to try again tomorrow.

    Patches and lube?

I am trying to learn the whys and how's of deciding patch thickness and lube. To date I have been using cheap scraps from the bargain bin at the fabric store and bore butter to fully saturate the patches. Rifle is .50, ball is .490 and best I can measure the patch is about .010. I settled on...
