    Cimarron Pistols

Here's my 2cents worth.I purchased CB's(Uberti's) from Navy Arms,Taylor's,and Cimarron,Internally they are all the same.Cimarron finish is a little better, followed by Navy Arms, nothing wrong with Taylor's.Until this year I used to repair CB pistols for various clubs(cowboy and muzzeloading)I...

FFF black powder vs. Cowboy powder

Goex Cowboy was designed for black powder cartridge,45 colt,44-40,38-40,specifically for CAS.It is a mixture 3fg and 2fg goex, this was suppose to make it burn cleaner, and to reduce felt recoil.Personally I never noticed any difference between Cowboy and regular 2fg goex, other than price,cowboy...

    Working on a lube mix

Stumpkiller-your "MOOSE SNOT"works pretty well for bullet lube BP cartridge.I have not tried it yet in cold weather,I 'll let you know in a couple of weeks.Forgive me for the BP cartridge, thought some folks might have been curious about it.Respectfully Montanadan

    Which BP substitute?

Rubicam-I had good luck with Pinnacle(3fg) as prime powder. It has to be ground up a little finer than 4fg Goex, and I did not own a flinter at this time,so all testing was done with custom guns.Everone was skeptical(me included),only one pan flash, the rest of the time no problems. Some said it was...

    Which BP substitute?

Pepperbelly-If I had to use Sub's I would definetly use the Goex Pinnacle powder.Of all the sub's it was the easiest to use had the lowest flash point, similiar burn rates as goex(real BP).Pinnacle uses real charcoal, and is less hygroscopic than the other sub's.I only used 3fg Pinnacle when we...

    Burst musket barrel question

Mike-Most of the barrell material comes from South America.Rice,Colerain, and green mountain, just to list a few.I do not own any of the Indian made muzzeloaders,so I can not comment.I would be very afraid of anything coming out of China right now.Respectfully montanadan.

    Compare Different Black Powder Substitutes

Comus-about three years ago I did some testing of sub's.I sent batches to some friends of mine that work with solid fuel rockets,I wanted certain tests run that I could not do myself.such as compositions, burn rates, ignition temperatures, compression tests and burn rates under compression.Tested...

    Pinnacle Powder

Gene-contrary to what other's say I have had good luck shooting Pinnacle in ALL my flinters.I have even used it for pan powder,it is quite slow as prime powder.Pinnacle is not the same as Pioneer Powder, one major difference is contains real charcoal.Even my AH flint will shoot it just...

patche thickness for my rocky mountain

Mongrain-I think they use the same barrel that is used on the Tryon.I have a Tryon,.535 and .011 patch have shot up to 105 grns of swiss(2fg) without blowing patches. This was using Stumpy's Moose Juice, normally I shoot 60 grns,I would start with what Pedersoli recommends.Respectfully montanadan

    Cimarron Arms?

Mike in the past ,Cimmarron had a better external finish. They use to claim that they selected all there products from Uberti.I have worked on numerous single actions over the years, found no difference internally.I would save some money and just buy the Remmy from a good uberti distributor.Hope...

    A&H parts ?

Rebel-I tried both Dixie and Track, they have never stocked or had any AH parts.I tried a frizzen spring from LR lock, when I heated the spring to bend it(just slightly red)it fell a part do to poor casting( a rather large air pocket). The white Lightning I used is the 3/8.Mine was drilled so...

    A&H parts ?

Rebel-I went through the same type problems with my AH flinter. My vent is (was) to low ,tried every vent known to man.I have a white lighting vent in mine now and it is very fast.I also ground the pan and polished, this was when I was trying different vents.AH take the same vent as...

    Pioneer powder question

Smokey in OZ-The main problem with pioneer powder is, that it is very hygroscopic(it attracts moisture like crazy).Second it is less dense than black powder or pyrodex,so you will probably need to increase your powder charge at least 10 grains.Seems like your using more powder, but it is less...

    Best caliber for round balls

Is one caliber better than another for roundball shooting in a smoothbore? I currently have 20 gauge(.620 actual),I was thinling of going to 24 gauge(58 cal).I can do pretty well with the 62@25 and 50 yd targets. Is there any advantage to going to the smaller caliber? Thanks in...

    Is Barrel WHIP possible?

Thanks to all that responded.I was pretty sure they were talking about barrel harmonics, being new to this smoothie shooting never hurts to ask.The TVM barrel shoots very well, groups are good(when I do my part)still working on a good load. Thanks again...Respectfully Montanadan

    Is Barrel WHIP possible?

I was at another forum and reading that the thinner smooth bore barrels have a tendancy to " barrel whip".I have just started shooting my smoothbore, mine is a TVM barrel,20 gauge 42"(.620).At the muzzle it is thinner than a caywood, getz,or a colerain. At what point would you experience barrel...

    frizzen spring

Doc -I went through the same thing with my AH flint,Dixie does NOT have any parts for them.I wound up sending lock my to Steve Zihn,he made a spring for it,works great now.Stan Hollenbaugh will build spring and tune the lock, you can call him at 717-259-9271.Steve Zihn is a member here,so you can...

    .40 cal shooters...

brett sr..I have a colerain barrel on my 40 and use pretty much the same patch and ball combo.I have tried thicker patches(and like you, have dang near, have to beat them down the barrel)with no improvement in group size,So I am going to stay with the .015 patch and .395 ball.I think 40 cal is...
