    Mold for 1841 cal .69 Harper's Ferry?

Custom Mould dead end. Proceeding on some helpful hints above, I contacted Rapine, telling him I wanted a custom mold for a Minieball for my Model 1842 rifled .69 cal, which has a bore of .708. We agreed I need a mold for a Mineball of .705 or .706, but Rapine doesn't make anything that big; he...

    Enfield Rear Sight

I mistakenly posted this request in shooting accessories; I think it belongs here. I have an 1862 Tower Rifle, I suppose it would be considered an Enfield. The rear portion of the barrel near the breech has a rectangular sort of mound on which once sat a rear sight. I am in need of such a sight...

    Need Rear Sight, 1862 Enfield

So I have an 1862 .58 Tower Rifle. There is a slight rectangular rise rather like a mound on top of the barrel a few inches from the breech. This is where the rear sight formerly sat, no? So I need one. Can anyone identify this sight and recommend a supplier?

    Contact Info for Rapine Moulds?

It has been suggested that I should contact Rapine Moulds for custom Minie Ball Moulds. Does anyone have their contact info? Even an address would be helpful. Thanks.

    Mold for 1841 cal .69 Harper's Ferry?

Now, 750 grains seems awfully heavy for that .704/.705 Minie ball we're talking about. Sounds like it would knock me into next week- would you confirm the desirability of that weight? Could it not be lighter?

    Mold for 1841 cal .69 Harper's Ferry?

Thank you for this very helpful information. I just knew a .69 cal Minie was not going to work. Yes, a custom Minie mold. One of .704 or .705. Now, who would you seek out for such a commission?

    Mold for 1841 cal .69 Harper's Ferry?

What about a roundball? I imagine I could get a tighter fit in my .708 bore with a certain ball and patch. Were these rifles conceived exclusively for firing Minieballs?

    Mold for 1841 cal .69 Harper's Ferry?

Thanks for the information. Today I took this rifle to my gunsmith. He had a light we could drop down the barrel; to my joy it looked great- better than I could have hoped. He measures the bore at .708. With this additional information, what should I do first, order some .69 cal Minies...

    .58 Caliber or .58 Caliber ???

So...let's say we're a little over .58 cal, whether by fault of the maker or through the ravages of war. What would I do if I found the bore to be .59 or .593 or something? I know you can get a custom roundball mold; can you get a custom minie ball mold? (This would also answer the question I...

    .58 Caliber or .58 Caliber ???

That would be the conventional wisdom- thing is, this carbine doesn't really look like it saw much use. Very few dings- and a pretty clean bore. As I said, the nipple cap and chain are present.

    Mold for 1841 cal .69 Harper's Ferry?

Picked up a fine example of the 1841 Model Harper's Ferry .69 cal musket at auction today. Barrel and stock marked 1848. This weapon was converted in the arsenal from .69 smoothbore to .69 rifled, and had a long range sight added too. Does anyone have a preferred Minie Ball reccomendation (a...

    .58 Caliber or .58 Caliber ???

Sure enough, the only way to determine the precise caliber of a rifle is to have a gunsmith check it (or do this yourself)... nevertheless- I have a .58 cal "Richmond" Rifle (reproduction). Lyman's ".58 cal mold, 510 Gr. (Item #2651213)" produces a tight fitting Minie Ball that is frighteningly...

    Unidentified Heavy Flintlock 1" Bore

I am assessing what I presume to be a French Napoleonic Flintlock that I may acquire at an upcoming sale. I'd like to know whether such a caliber as 15/16 of an inch (nearly 1.00) makes sense. The biggest muskets I am aware of were .69 and .72 or so. This large gun is not so big as a wall gun...
