I want one. That there is one beautiful piece of working art.

Seal the cap on BP Revolvers

Exactly, I made a post about a year ago in THR that describes this practice because I seen a lot of people asking about how long can one keep a C&B Revolver loaded "I guess as a HD or second SD weapon." I do keep at least one of my C&B Revolvers loaded mostly because when I go to check traps...

45 cast bullets in remington 44

Like what Blizzard mentioned, if the conical bullet has a heeled base "slightly smaller than chamber size like the Lee Conicals" it'll load straight & by my experience with my 220gr. Lee Cast Conicals you should be able to load them with 25 - 28 grains of FFFG Goex & have a healthy accurate...

before I go out and spend 60 bucks on caps...

Untill you replace the cones, you could squeze the cap slightly to give it a slight egg shape & then install the cap onto the cone, that will keep the cap in place till it is exploded from firing.

    Traditions 1851 Coly Navy ?'s

Traditions revolvers are Pietta, & yes they are 6X.75mm & the Ampco/Tresso cones will fit a #11 Percussion cap very nicely. Try The Possible Shop or Track of the Wolf "TOTW has them as their PIR-A cones."

    Pietta 1858 Rem owners...

I have 2 of em. My 24 year old chambers measures out to .4500. My 1.5 year old chambers measured out to .4460 but I reamed the chambers to .4510. I always use .457 ball or now a .456 220gr. Lee conical, but mostly ball. a .454 will do the trick for you.

Very well said. Couldn't have put it any better.

    Paper cartridges

I think that is how most frontiersmen did it back then.

    Paper cartridges

Original pistol paper catridges were just a lubed conical bullet over the powder charge, Colt also did foil wrapped catridges in a similar fashion. I have made paper catridges with a .457 ball over the powder charge wrapped in cigarette paper, & never had any issues. So to question #1 yes it...

    Traditions 1851 Coly Navy ?'s

Tresso Cones come in #11 caps for your revolver. Compressing the load when you seat the ball is what they are referring to, with 777 powder you want to use the rammer to get the ball into the chamber & then just have it sit on the powder not compress it like you can do with real Black, it taks...

    ROA - next best choice.

While I agree with mykeal with Uberti New Model Army,1860 Army, or even the Euroarms Rogers and Spencer being of great quality I would like to add the Pietta New Model Army to the list as well. Pietta's quality & workmanship has greatly improved over the past 5 years & is just on par with what...

    Making my own balls

If you're casting ball for PRB in a rifle then any wheel weight will do but for the C&B revolvers I would suggest only the Adhesive Wheel Weights. Clip On Wheel Weights are 95% Lead, 2.5% Antimony, 1% Tin & 1.5% Trace Elements & would be pretty hard for Muzzle Loading Ball "can be used" &...

    Flintlock Pistol @ 50 Yards

I personally do not have a Flinter yet "but workin on it" but with rudimentary sights that are on many of these pistols makes for a hard job to begin with & then try for a 50 yard shot makes it that much more interesting. Outside of maybe reducing your load till your groups tighten up at the 25...

    BP Revolver Background check

For muzzle loading firearms & C&B revolvers Virginia only requires that you be 18 years old but like others have said laws are different from state to state, so bringing 2 forms of ID is a good idea.

    revolver bullets

Depends on the bore & chamber size of your particular revolver. The .456 220gr. Conical mold by Lee is really intended for the Ruger Old Army revolvers because their bore is .452 - .453 & the chambers usually run in the .453 - .454 size, the conical will drop from the mold at these dimentions...

Carrying Paper Cartridges Back in the Day?

Very informative crockett, thanx. I place mine in a small plastic fishing tackle box tray for the range use.

Anybody use plain Crisco as patch lube?

I still use Crisco for patch lube, I just keep my patches in a small tin seperate from everything else for just in case purposes.

Carrying Paper Cartridges Back in the Day?

Ofcorse I'm clueless as to how a civilian either Ex-military or otherwise carried extra paper cartridges on their person but one of my projects for this cold months is to make a 12 or 18 hole cartridge pouch to carry paper cartridges to the range. Thought of just making it out of a block of Oak...

Do you completely strip your pistol for every cleaning?

I total strip my C&B revolvers about once every 6 - 12 months, the rest of the time I just remove the grips & disassemble the cylinder & place it all in a 5 gallon bucket of HOT Soapy water to clean, use the oven @ 125*F for 10 minutes to dry it then spray it down with WD40 to sortof disperse...

To wad or not to wad?

I have a 24 year old Remington copy from Pietta that loves wads "although the wonder wads not as much, maybe it's not enough lube" & it shoots it's best with em but my 27 year old Pietta 1860 Army shoots it's best with just come Crisco over the ball compared to the wad under the ball. The point...
