    Jag stuck in Barrel

Hi all, just wanted to share a frustrating afternoon with those who would appreciate it...hope it might help one of you if you find yourselves in the same spot. After a recent afternoon of shooting I started to clean my ML as usual. Pulled the lock, hot water down the barrel, scrub with jag...

Edward Marshall style makers mark I.D.

It could be a long shot but as a part time blacksmith I have seen a lot of similar "touch marks" do a Google search, there are a lot of touch mark registries...you might get lucky. My guess is that it's the previous owners name.

.50 and .54 or consolidate on one caliber?

I agree with several other on here, it's not a matter of"need" the question is why in the world would you not want both?

    striping a ramrod

I have often wondered about a reason why this was done (if at all) back when? I have no proof either way but do work with wood and iron in traditional manners a lot. We take for granted simple things like sandpaper in today's modern world. Burnishing and boning wood is a way to make it smooth...

    Hunting clothes

Well my wife calls what I wear antique cuz it hasn't changed in 40 years  I go out with PC clothes in the early seasons, it's a lot of fun, but when it gets cold I go back to what I know works for me. We don't buy store bought meat, hunting is for filling our freezers. All wool for me...

    45 CAL for white tail?

Round ball and 90 grains behind it has worked just as well as my 50 for me many times...agree with the others on here, placement is more important than the size of the bullet.

    CO elk hunt ?'s

I agree with Dave 100%!!! For what it's worth...been hunting with my buddy for 30+ years and he went away from real black powder, bought into the marketing ads and drank their coolaid...3 years running his gun went click instead of kapow...the third time was at the buck of his lifetime! It now...

    Frizzen issues

Hi Don...you could be right, some frizzens are not as hard as others, similar to the files that are sold today, they are mostly case hardened mild steel...once you get through the hard part they are junk. Hard to say without seeing your frisson and doing a hardness test on it, does a file cut a...

    Hunt Year Wrap-up

VT is a great place to hunt, public land is getting harder hit as more and more people are now posting their land. That was not the case when I was growing up. Between my family's land and the neighbors I could walk all day and still be on good hunting land. Now unfortunately many of them...
