New to me Pietta 1851 Navy "Yank"

I suppose different folks have different experiences but I shoot 4 Uberti's, two 51's a 61 and a 60. All have stock nipples and I've never had a problem with them misfiring. I also use Remington #10's. So I'd go with the "try it and see" crowd before replacing the nipples. Great deal on the...

    Road Trip

Mark Fore and Strike in Reno sells BP. At least they did five years ago when I lived east of there. They're pretty proud of it though and it will cost you. As I recall it was a little over $20 a pound then.

    Getting closer

I use 3f in everything I shoot - pistols, rifles (50 & 32 cal.)and my 20ga fowler and have found no problems. My loads are a little lighter than an equal load of 2f but to me that's good. Equal performance less powder. Win/win.

Looking to blast some wasp nests...

Just mix up some dish soap/water in a spray bottle and spray the nest real good in the late afternoon or evening. When they exit they will just fall to the ground because the soap makes their wings slippery where they cannot fly. Stomp em good with your boots and be done with it.

    Smoothbores takes some learning

Another adventure awaiting you is learning to use that flint in the rain pursuing those squirrels. The learning curve never ends and adds to the adventure of our sport.

Do you own a Dr. Gary White Muzzleloader?

I have a 50 flint Henry rifle built by Gary White that I bought through TOW. The craftsmanship is ok but the trigger pull is way too heavy. I don't know what to do about it so I just live with it. It's accurate enough for my tastes but the hard pull takes some getting used to.

    Horn Plug, tether or no?

I tether for the same reason I carry two sets of keys for my vehicle. I've never locked myself out thank God but if it should happen I'm ready. I've never lost my plugs or forgot to replug but really don't want to either. So I tether. Just in case. Because it could happen. I'm also "cheap" and...
