    Original N'Eastern..'13

Hey RC, Dave & I planned to go to the Original this year but he was short handed at work so didn't make it. Joanne & I thought about heading down Tues. for visitors day but luckily checked the web site and saw the camp had been evacuated. Won't be going to Newark Valley again this year, but...

There are "tons" of photos on their web site.

The feasibility of returning to a more primitive season?

I doubt we'll ever have a primitive mzldr. season for several reasons, not the least as stated (2) by Roundball. We might just as well have a single shot season considering all the bells & whisles of modern Mzldrs. This would also allow yhe use of single shot shotgun with slugs which is more...

    "Tweaking" a fowler

Canerod, I've bent a few barrels with good resuts. I've got plenty of trees around here I could bend a barrel with but have chicken out trying this method - I could forsee with my skills and patience winding up with an "L" shaped pipe. I haven't bent any of my barrels so I could look straight...

    20 Gauge Smoothbore Questions

I got the bear fat from friends who shot bears. I rendered it down and mixed it with beeswax. In cold weather I use a higher percent bear grease (no formula;just wing-it). Go to the archives for how to make Stumpy's moose-snot.

    20 Gauge Smoothbore Questions

I have a Chambers PA fowler in which I use a .600 ball {Lyman mold} and about a .012 cotton duck patch lubed with either bear graese & beeswax or Stumpy's moose snot. I can thumb start this combo but it's a bit tight and if shooting over 10 or so shots I'll use a short starter.

    Which Barrel??

Just curious - is the rate of twist in .54c the same for Rice and Colerain?

    Cookson fowler

I have one of the India import Cookson fowler's. At 10 lbs. it is much too heavy and awkward for general hunting such as birds, rabbits or even waterfowl. Mine is accurate shooting roundball after several barrel bending sessions and would be okay for large game from a blind.

    Conn. River Canoe trek?

The 2009 Canoe-Vous is set for Sept. 9-13 in Cornish, NH. I went to one a few years ago and it's a great event; particularly the canoe trip down the Conn. R. With all the rain this year it should be a "fast trip". There's also fishing, archery, and a blanket shoot. The cost is $15/person and...

Hooked breech = Less accuracy ??

A peep sight for a TC Hawken is mounted on the tang and not on the barrel thus increasing the potential for less accuracy.

    Stringing shots

I remember reading somewhere that increasing the powder charge will "cure" vertical stringing.

    Peroxide cleaning barrel

I've used the "MAP" solution and got instant flash rust in the barrel. I substituted water for peroxide and eliminated the rust. I also use plain water with equal results but feel the alcohol probably dries the barrel faster.

    Penobscot Lonrifles Monthly Shoot

Canerod - What about the "Ancient Ones"? Have they gone under, or gone to shooting smokeless as well?
