Rodwah, he stated he planned on hunting deer with it. Seems a bit light for taking game the size of deer. In fact, on Pedersoli's web site, it's only recommended for target shooting and historical re-enactment, not hunting wild game. Pedersoli Bounty Flintlock Model Cage

    Ruger Old Army

:( $400 is a good price for an Old Army in good condition. I gave $450 for a 7-1/2" fixed sight blued model (my favorite version, BTW) the same year they quit making them. The price has only gone up since then. Supply and demand and all that... Funny how the demand goes up right after the supply...

    Ruger old army

I have a 7-1/2" fixed sight model. My most accurate load is 25-28gr of 777 with lubed wad and .457 RB. You will probably find that it shoots high. Most of them do. Cage

    pistol presentation cases

The Possible Shop has these. I don't know if it is big enough for what you want but the inside can be customized. Cage :v The 18¼"L X 9¼"W box has two thick layers of foam to hold item(s) securely in place and can be removed to ensure proper fit of larger items. Rich wood grain and red...

    bullets for old army

My instruction manual says: The "Old Army" was designed to use a .457" diameter round ball or .454" conical bullet of pure lead. A .457 conical may work but it may be a bit snug. Also, conicals are known for being harder to start and load straight. Using a .454" may help some. Cage :v

Relative cap & ball revolver sizes

Poor Private, thanks again for the heads-up on the Possible Shop. It turns out the Ruger Old Army will fit in the box made for the Colts, but just barely. Sporting a new set of Corian Apaloosa grips by Cary Chapman clccustom grips Cage :v

newbie need advise on load for a Cabela's 1858

I've been shooting BP for the better part of a year so I'm fairly new at this. But I can give you a few answers: Ball size: see what the manufacturer recommends. Generally speaking, a small ring of lead should be shaved off all the way around the ball when you seat it in the chamber...

Relative cap & ball revolver sizes

Sorry, I thought most would know what the model number meant. A BP-7F is the 7-1/2" barrel with fixed sights in blue. I wasn't going to transport the gun in the case, just store and/or display it. Poor Private, thanks for the tip on the Possibles Shop. I will check them out. Cage

Relative cap & ball revolver sizes

I'm thinking about buying a wood presentation case for my Ruger Old Army. I was wondering if this case made for a 1851, 1858 or 1860 would work. Mine is a BP-7F. How does the Ruger relate in size to these revolvers? Is it bigger or smaller? Can anybody who owns both a ROA and one of these...

    Lemat range report

If you're not looking to buy anything fancy, or you're cheap like I am, try Cabela's. I found a nice, unlined heavy leather holster and heavy 1-3/4" belt for less than $35. The holster fits my Ruger Old Army like a glove.I realize the LeMat is a totally different gun, but they might have...

    Pedersoli Howdah Design Flaw?

Maybe I'm over-simplifying here, but couldn't you just keep a thumb or finger over the ram-rod hole while holding the pistol during loading as an easy fix? Cage :v

    1860 Army Colt .44

Well, I'm relatively new at this, but I thought that cap & ball revolvers use FFFg, not FFg. At least my ROA does. Is FFg useable in a cap & ball? Does it just not perform as well as FFFg? Cage :hmm:

    Cap and ball pistol questions.

I'm still kind of new at this, but let me try and answer and see if I've learned anything. The purpose of the filler is twofold: (1) to improve accuracy (the ball doesn't have to travel far to engage the rifling) and (2) to give you a decent "pack" of the load with the loading lever (which will...

    Revolver- Cast Or Swaged Balls?

Thanks for all the info, guys. I was told that the sprue goes down so as not to interfere with the aerodynamics at the nose of the bullet. But I guess it doesn't really matter. Now I know. Cage

    Revolver- Cast Or Swaged Balls?

I'm kind of new at this, but I've been told that if a cast ball has a sprue, it goes down when loading (against the wad or powder). Is this correct or not? I buy Speer .457 RB and none of them have a sprue. I was just wondering what is the correct way to position the sprue if the ball has one...

    I recruited a pistol shooter

I recently bought a Ruger Old Army, my 1st venture to the "dark side". (BP) I would like to get a rifle to go with it. I'm very partial to Rugers  and was disappointed when the Old Army was discontinued. :shake: I was hoping they'd make a revolver type carbine (not sure what these were...
