Pattern help for SxS Navy Arms 12 ga.

Deer--- I would like to know who did that Cap-to-Flintlock on a double conversion as well. I think that might be a new thread topic, too! Many of us love flintlock doubles but you can't find em. Converting a double cap gun might be our only hope!

    44 cal. Flintlock Pistol

I'd start with a .430 diameter lead ball and try different patches.

    10ga Pedersoli

I do not like using plastic in my smoothbore, large bores. I make cardboard or paper rolled up shot packages. Holds a lot of shot and definitely controls the spread tighter than just pouring the shot in. And yes less powder keeps the pattern tighter. I don't see why your modified barrel would...

    Deringer MV?

Lincoln was shot behind the left ear with a 44 caliber 2 and 1/2 inch long barreled single shot cap lock "vest pistol" or "deringer"... It was manufactured by Henry Deringer of Philadelphia. I would like to know if anyone has done velocity chronographs with THAT style pistol and what the...

Almost time to make the 12 ga go boom!

Asking the barrel maker makes the most sense.

    Range Report - Blunderbuss

I have a four bore blunderbuss and like mixing 36 caliber with 24 caliber with #8 bird shot. I load up about 5 ounces total of mixed shot over 120 grains of black powder. Wow, is it devastating at 8-15 yards.

    Flintlock pick?

Wow, didn't expect to see so many that are "picky". I use my rarely. No need to. I have some and occasionally will use if I am shooting a ton (30 - 40 shots at my range) and things start getting cruddy. But that is it.

    Short barreled double

Geee, I must be blind I do not see a 15" barreled gun there.

    Short barreled double

On Gun Broker???? I looked at there is nothing there under that description.

    Pyrodex as a primer

The way Black Powder works SO WELL, I cannot comprehend why anyone would use fake stuff in the pan or main charge. (Certainly if you have NO Black Powder) I can see trying it if you MUST shoot your flinter. But you can rectify NOT having any Black Powder in 4 days or less anywhere in the US...

    Pickin out a smoothy??

Yes, I have looked at and talked with Roy. Super guy. Incredibly talented and fantastic guns. If you can afford one of those, ditch the recommendations I sent for sure! I rear site is bad! Shame on you! hahahaha. well if you're hunting deer it makes perfect sense. foul? dunno. clay targets...

    Pickin out a smoothy??

Ness---I'd say your original post has mined out for you some good leads so far! So are you thinking Fowler or another style smoothie at this point? I know you want to shoulder some and maybe even shoot some but where are you thinking you might be going with it? And you did say 20...

    Punt Gun

Cool. And I think it is better to have the nomenclature cannon and not punt gun since the walls will be 1 inch thick. Glad you are looking at ounces and NOT a pound of black powder too. I really like my 4 bore. It makes a heck of a boom especially when a double pack the wad (when I am using it...

    Pickin out a smoothy??

Excellent! Yes I share your interest in getting a smooth bore flintlock next. It is also on my list. I will most likely buy a kit and build it myself. This is what I am eyeing---- http://www.avsia.com/tvm/fowler.htm $700 bucks in steel with some options like the swivels so add another $100...

    Pickin out a smoothy??

Ness-- Here is a link with links to traditional muzzleloading clubs. If you contact these guys in MA or ME or NH I am sure they will be helpful and knowledgeable and let you shoulder some 20 gauge smoothies. http://www.coon-n-crockett.org/linklist.htm Also please investigate and research...

    Punt Gun

Indeed 2 inch bore, 4 inch diameter, (walls of one inch thick) is NOT a punt gun. It is a cannon. That thing will weigh a ridiculously large amount. And yes a whole pound of powder is way too much for any punt gun. I know you are dreamin' while on deployment, but one thing you may want to...

    I want "the Baker"

I hear ya. Actually i have a passion for all double barrels including modern that shoot shells, of course modern is 1800's with ornate open hammers and that shoot black powder loads. I just picked up another, this one on an auction site. The barrels had been professionally cut down to 20 inches...

How do you buy your guns?

"...a good dear rifle".... I like THAT!

    I want "the Baker"

I know you can get a used older caplock rifle double shotgun and just cut it down to 11.5 inches if you want and save a bunch of money and have something that aesthetically looks even more authentic. I like the look and utility of a shorter double barrel.
