    capbox kit

Original capboxes that I have and have seen utilize a very small screww, like a 4-40 or a 5-40 that hold the spring into place. A boss was used and that is what holds the screw and spring in place. The boss was indigineous to the casting

    Engraving

I understand your dilema. As for myself, I can do basic stuff, but I cannot perform the things you see on that engraving forum...(possibly yet)....but there is hope. I am real fortunate to live very close to the Log Cabin Shoppe in Lodi, Ohio and I have some pictures of some old antiques that...

Beating the snot out of a rifle!

What a firestorm! Seeing that you asked, I replied and Mr. Hudleston made a mioptic comment I'll provide some insight on the two rifles I showed earlier in this thread... I was approached by a young man who was the owner of a broken up old original rifle that had everything but the lock. The...

Beating the snot out of a rifle!

How about this? [/img] [/img] [/img] [/img] [/img] [/img] Another one...I restocked an old original that had such a delapidated stock it wouldn't have been able to have been used (it would have mostly been glue!) [/img] [/img] [/img] [/img] [/img] On the...

Left hand twist or Right hand twist?

Correct.....with the exception being 6 groove barrels which were right hand twist's..... I just think that since the bulk of a population are generally right handed that naturaly the folks making rifling machines decided to do it right handed also.....who knows?

    Engraving

I'm looking for some reference on engraving techniques so that I can enhance my abilities some.... Any good ones out there besides Meek's book? I'm hoping to find some that illustrate how to correct (besides practice, practice, practice...) flaws. Maybe we can get a tutorial going....

    A couple of new ones......

Sorry about getting back to you about your question, been busy. The top one is an idea that another person came up with and asked me to build it for him. He wanted the rifle to be in German silver, with a pistol grip, full stock, cast-off, with a perch belly, patchbox and a cheeck piece. I...

    A couple of new ones......

I finished these off just recently. The top in number 36 and the bottom is number 42. Number 42 has been made from old original parts: barrel, lock, buttplate and triggers..... I shot the bottom one on Saturday and for an old barrel it didn't shoot too bad.....needs a little...
