    Mike Brooks Fowler

There's a beautiful fowler by Mike Brooks on the Contemporary Maker's Blog. Of mid 18th century period design, this is what is meant when the word fowler is used. The photographs say it better than I ever could. In 12 gauge, with a 44" barrel, it is light, long and graceful. A splendid...

    Rare and Valuable Rifle-Musket

Here's one you don't see everyday! Item #136118797 on Gunbroker.com. This treasure is so rare that I've never seen the like before. The quality of the workmanship is unlike anything I have ever seen created by the hand of man.

    English Locks

Has anyone been following the series on early English locks in Classic Arms and Militaria Journal? A really fine article starting with the snaphaunce and ending just before the French lock took over. Best of all are detailed photographs of the inner workings of these robust locks. All in all a...

    Classic Arms and Militaria Magazine

Has anyone read the last couple of issues? There's a good on-going article by Brian Godwin about the English lock and its variations. He covers the various sear variations and safeties including the dog catch. Worth the price of admission if you can find a copy. Two installments so far...

    Springfield Gunshow.

I went to the Springfield Gunshow today looking for parts for three antique Winchesters that I'm restoring. I didn't find anything I could use, but I did see some interesting muzzleloaders. The first one was a T-C .56 smoothbore in fine condition for $100.00. The dealer said no one had looked...

    Bi-centennial Besses

Does anyone recall a batch of English made Besses that were imported at the time of our Bi-centennial celebration? I seem to recall that they were made to exacting standards and were very pricey for the time.

    Chato's Land

I watched Chato's Land last night, and was surprised to see that often the rifle-muskets could be fired when the hammers were already down on the nipples. Amazing though it may seem, they often didn't produce any smoke or flame at the muzzle when discharged. They did make a helluva bang though...

    Civil War Re-enactment

For those close enough, there will be a Civil War re-enactment this coming weekend in Brimfield, Massachusetts. This is the largest CW event in New England and takes place at the Heart-O-The-Mart antique show field on Route 20 in Brimfield. It runs from 9a.m. to 5p.m. on Saturday and from 9a.m...

Has anyone seen Wulf' locks over on the Contemporary Maker's Site? www.contemporarymakers.blogspot.com It's definitely worth a look!

Club Butt Musket in Muzzle Blasts

Just got my copy of the July issue of Muzzle Blasts and there is a brief article on a club butt musket in it. It has some nice photographs of the musket. It strikes me as being a "bitsa" gun--maybe using an early French musket barrel (given the bore and barrel length) and an English dog catch...

    Old Deerfield Massachusetts

Just want to say that tomorrow is the last day of the 1704 Deerfield Raid re-enactment weekend. Many exhibits relating to the raid and time period including a period firearms exhibit and snowshoe making demonstration among others.

    Pistols by Adriano Sala

I just picked up a copy of "Pistols" by Adriano Sala. Really beautiful book--page after page of full color photographs of pistols starting from a Japanese matchlock pistol and running up to about 1912 or so. And best of all, the photos are full size! The detail is sharp the variety of the guns...

Double Gun & Single Shot Journal

The summer issue has an article on three English sporting rifles: a rook rifle, a .58 caliber rifle, and a 16 bore rifle. Beautiful design and workmanship with beautiful engraving. Has anyone seen this article and if so, do you see a little Hawken flavor about them?

    "A Few Acres of Snow"

Has anyone read "A Few Acres of Snow" by Robert Leckie? If so, any thoughts as to its historical accuracy and validity as an F&I War reference?

    New rifle

Anyone have a "Buffalo Hunter" version of the Zouave? I picked one up at a gun show today and am curious as to loads. I know Val Forgett used one to take the Big Five in Africa, but I don't need to stoke it up that heavy. I'm thinking 70-80 grains of ffg under a 560 grain Minie. Any thoughts?

    R. R. Harrison

I tried this on the flint forum and didn't get any hits, so I'll try it here. Has anyone ever run across a rifle builder named R. R. Harrison? He worked in Wilton, Wisconsin over 30 years ago and could still be active today. Any information would be useful. Thanks.

    New Longrifle

Has anyone heard of R.R. Harrison? I just picked up a longrifle that he built about 37 years ago. It is a .45 caliber flintlock and has never been fired. He worked out of Wilton, Wisconsin and perhaps he still does. Any information would be appreciated.

    Humungous lock

Anyone else notice the giant flintlock on e-Bay? It is for a wall gun and is 8 5/8" by 1 1/2". It's a fully assembled piece from The Rifle Shoppe. It's under sporting goods and then flintlocks. Just the thing for that pocket pistol you've always wanted to build! :kid:

    Colt musket

Does anyone know who made the 1861 Colt muskets? Any one have experience with them? Do they have the Sam Colt "signature" on them? Thanks.
