    I did a bad thing.

Last time that I checked (about 5 minutes ago), a Siler lock costs $295.00 and worth every penny. But's that's a lot more than I would spend on that rifle. Maybe take legal action and add mention of all the psychic trauma this situation has caused you. Then order one of Jim's kits.

It’s amazing what new info we are constantly learning about history.

Well. it's true if you twist it just right. They teach you the correct technique in Woke 101. They also screen you to see if you are stupid enough to go on to Woke 102 and beyond.

    Enfield P53 reproductions

The trouble with these straight grain stocks is the musket grain through the wrist. It's a weak point ang pretty much guarantees a break after a while.

Engraved Pistol Costs Today versus 1960's or 70's.

Around twenty years ago I had an 1860 Colt engraved by John Adams. Coverage is a bit over 50% and it cost $900.00. But that price included a one piece ivory grip. Worth every penny!

    High humidity reeks havoc

So lube alone is enough to hold very undersized balls in the chambers? I would think that there would be some problems with that.

    Thank you!

    High humidity reeks havoc

Maybe because the guy who never had a chain fire was doing everything right to begin with.

    High humidity reeks havoc

I've never had a chain fire and I've been shooting cap and ball revolvers for over 65 years. No lube over the chambers either, just tight fitting balls. If you are shaving a complete ring from the ball when loading, there is no way fire from one chamber can light off another one.

    One piece Kentucky long rifles

Jim's kits come fully inletted. There is very little fitting to do. They have best quality parts and are authentic in appearance. The Pedersolis are, on the other hand, generic rifles with no authenticity and a lot of extra weight to them. It's a case of comparing apples and oranges. The Kibler...

What mistakes have you noticed in movies/tv shows that happen in the BP era like Daniel Boone, Patriot etc?

How about in westerns when they whip out a Colt and cock it. Then, when they don't fire they lower the hammer on a live round and just holster the piece. I wince every time.....

    Pietta Vs Centaur

The Spanish Remingtons are definitely a cut above the Italian guns. Fit and finish is far better and they are very close to the originals in appearance. The Santa Barbaras also are made from modern ordnance steel. These old revolvers have won many contests in Europe yet are almost entirely...

    Pietta Vs Centaur

They were making "brevette" Colts in Belgium in period. They may have had the old machinery still on hand.

    Best value smoothbore

Will you be using it as a "do everything" gun" or basically as a rifle is used?

    1860 Colt vs. 1858 Remington

The one that doesn't slap your middle finger.

    1860 Colt vs. 1858 Remington

Good choices, but both are hard to find. The Santa Barbara is a jewel and those of us who have them are not likely to sell them. I plan to be buried with mine.

Greetings from a 2-decades retired CW reenactor

Prichett ball. Easy loading. Make the correct cartridge and you can load quickly and they're very accurate.

SOLD Kentucky 45 Cal. Rifle Kit $325 Plus shipping from 48316

It may be one of those old FIE rifles. Parts will be hard to find and the overall quality isn't that great. They took lots of shortcuts with these. If the price was lower it might be worth it just for the experience of putting it together.
