I made a cannon, and have fired it

Hmmm, correction, 30,000 psi tensile strength. It is alloy 660: copper, tin, lead, zinc, and iron blend. At any rate, it is a malliable alloy, and maintains shape and size to 14,000 psi.

I made a cannon, and have fired it

The ampco alloy used was recommended by a tool maker friend of mine, I'll post the exact alloy when I can verify my memory. I do recall the tensile strength to be 52,000 psi. Keith

I made a cannon, and have fired it

As stated already, the steel is mainly for mounting purposes, but in the event that the bore should bulge, I hope the seamless tube to contain the bronze, and disallow rapid dis-assembly. Not totally prevent failure, but rather keep things contained long enough to detect a problem. Keith

I made a cannon, and have fired it

It has no breech plug, it is not bored through, the OD of the material it is cut from started at 2" nominal diameter, miked at something like .030 over size and was turned down to provide a .006 press fit into a nominal bore 2" of seamless tube with a 1/4 inch wall. This is mainly for mounting...

    Smokleless in cannon??

:shocked2: I just read through that thread, I believe what we are discussing here is a self correcting problem. I just hope no innocents are in the way. Keith

    Does it make a difference?

Given the choice I'd go with .54. Because I shoot round ball. If you choose a fast twist conical shooter in the .45 or .50 either one will do the job on deer, but the round ball rifles are not to be underestimated. Keith

    First Flintlock

yes please post what it is, what caliber, what style, what make, or if a custom who built it. Keith Oh, and after shooting it, if yo can stop grinning long enough, tell us what you think of it.

    Davide Pedersoli

A quick search on the net shows E.M.F co, inc in Santa Ana, CA as a distributor, but I do not know of a retail store in your area. Keith

what brand of BP most used in muzzleloaders

Thanks for the honest opinions. Uncle Mike, you happen to strike a chord, after the events of the day at work today. Another union shop that makes a product for the largest appliance maker in the world (my current employer) is laying off again (500 jobs lost locally two years ago, 300 expected...

    Sorting round balls

Well I think that was clever! I usually only cast one size bullet (ball) at a time, and then sort by weight. Too light and it goes back into the melt at the next casting session. Too heavy and I get real confused. Keith

Half-cock won't hold against trigger pull

:shocked2: I had this problem on my Traditions Hawken a few years ago, the sear had broken and would not fully engadge the tumbler's half cock notch. On replica guns like yours, and in the spirit of guns like mine the half cock notch is deeply cut and captures the sear lever to prevent...

    Pedersoli cocking issue

Sorry to come in so late, since all seems to be working, do nothing further, but check it prior to hunting with it. If the problem re-occurs, however, try removing the entire trigger and guard assembly, then with the lock plate installed in the stock try to cock it and see if the problem still...

    Davide Pedersoli

Having spent more than I will admit to to purchase two Pedersoli rifles, I will tell you that I am totally satisfied with both of mine, and am contemplating a third (make that saving for a third). A Pedersoli rifle is similar to owning a Porsche. The fit and finish are outstanding, and it...

what brand of BP most used in muzzleloaders

This may have been covered before, but I can't find it. I am going to be re-stocking on BP (real stuff) in a few weeks, and was curious what powder was used most by members here. When I was working with my .45-70 (trying to load bp cartridges for hunting) the most often recommended powder...

Any one else got a double rifle?

Just for giggles and grins, I would like to draw Mr. Brownbear's attention to a couple of bits of printed info in regard to the Pedersoli .58x.58 Kodiak. Not to sway opinion to a different caliber, but rather to inform. Pedersoli manual lists 75 grains of 2F as a maximum load with a round ball...

Any one else got a double rifle?

Here in KY they are legal for primitive seasons, as well as any other time. (checked before purchase) Keith

Any one else got a double rifle?

A couple years ago I bought a Pedersoli .54x.54 double rifle, I am thinking about converting it to musket cap from the #11 percussion, just because. The reason for the double is two fold. One my Traditions Hawken .54 is showing signs of being at the end of it's life, and having walked up on a...

    Amateur question

Hi CJ, not to beat a dead horse here, but really do not set the rear trigger until you are "on target". I know one doe is still laughing three years after the fact. Due entirely to my own hurried set it by feel method. I tried to cock the rifle, and set the rear trigger as I brought the gun...
