    I hate grease !

that's good to know. I was given a small container of "gun grease" several years ago by a good friend and was told that it's the "only" way to lube the inside of your lock. I actually misplaced the vial and never got around to using it but I always had it in the back of my head as the "best way."

    Charleville

I second Wakhachim's advice. you wont be disappointed with the Charleville, with the possible exception of the Indian versions. In my opinion they lack the finesse of a true charleville and will be quite a bit heavier. are you interested in reenacting or just shooting?

    Charleville

someone might be able to direct you to a good used musket, or you can check out the Indian made models, though I can't recommend them as I have no experience with them: MVTC Loyalist arms because you posted this in the rifle section, I have to ask. . . do realize that the Charlevilles I...

    oct to round barrels

Lets see the different octagonal to round barrels. I'm curious about the variations, french/english; number/length of flats, sighting flat, etc. for example, how do french fusil barrels (with their myriad differences) vary from carolina guns, wilson trade guns, fowling pieces, etc. . . not...

    tampion with attached ramrod

If you used a threaded tip on the other end of the rod then you could employ it as either a "wiping" stick, or a range rod. BTW thanks for correcting the spelling "tampion" just didnt look right.
  18. B

    tampion with attached ramrod

It would serve as a second rod and ride in the bore. there was discussion on the forum a few years ago that dealt with second Ramrods carried in the bore, but I haven't been able to locate anything.

    Heavy Tulles

Mike: what kind of markings are on that barrel? do you know what kind of gun that came off of?

    tampion with attached ramrod

I figure you would cut the rod to length, either for an empty chamber, or to accommodate a standard load (hence the "safety" portion of the question)
