    1718 Puckle Gun

The original "Puff the magic dragon"?? http://www.weapon-blog.com/2014/01/puckle-gun/ In 1718, James Puckle of London, England, demonstrated his new invention, the “Puckle Gun,” a tripod-mounted, single-barreled flintlock gun fitted with a multishot revolving cylinder. This weapon fired nine...

    Puzzle me this....

Oft the question of "best caliber" comes along and well we all know its the .54 with some leanings to a .58  but here is my thought; An "Optimal Caliber" for the sake of traditional shooting, should be able to take the game in an area using all traditional projectiles. In other words is...

Fullstock "Hawken" done as she gets..

Someone made the comment about $800.00 in parts turned into a $300.00 gun and here it may be but 2 years, 2 pints of blood, and 1 do over later and here she is... A .54 Pecatonica kit, liberally bastardized to fit my taste, and ready to put dinner on the table. Haven't been to the range yet (in...

    Do you REALLY hunt??

Questioning this post even as I start to write it... I am developing a real pet-peeve with the far to frequent, in my opinion, statements I see about caliber being irelevent compared to shot placement. I thought about pasting a bunch of quotes from near by but didnt really want to call people...

    Your most "INCREDABLE" shot?

I started my mystique by shooting TWO "Robinhoods" in the that same summer (One aluminum arrow stuck squarly up the shaft of another) both at 30 yards, instinctively - pre 'sights', no release. Later that same year during archery season (elk and deer) we were in elk camp with elk and deer tags...

Most memorable wildlife encounter whilst hunting??

A couple threads of recent have got me thinking... One of MY most memorable encounters was a typical wet day turning warmish and suuny after a long Oregon rain a GREAT day to still hunt. After a climbing the 500-sh vertical feet necessary to get to the ridge top it was a nice easy walk. 9:30-sh...

Half way to a full stock Hawken

I think I am JUST about done with all the inletting, shapeing, tap-n-dying, fitting, etc.. down to finish sanding, pinning, staing, and assembly... The wood is very nice, the inletting looks like a retarded monkey went at it with a rock and chisle, and the sanding is going nicely...

    Lock Question...

I like the look of the steal being "blued" by hitting it with a small butane tourch.. Butt plate, thimbles, bolt heads, etc... The Lock, however, has springs (obviously) in it, would it hurt those springs heating up the outside face of the lock hot enough to give it that bluish tint?

2012 deer season is a nail biter...

It starts with a dandy buck beaded down in the middle of a field some 500 yards away at 2pm last Tuesday afternoon. A little forky is keeping him company and a fist full of does are near by... I used a drainedge ditch to get to 150-ish yards and then its just wide open field. He thinks hes hid...
