    Ball and Patch thickness ?

Sorry Grenadier, I am not so familiar with the writing on here I shoot because of my age on my knees support the rifle on a sandbag. So this are no offhand shots …most of the time I have at least one or 2 shots a bit off, only now I know it is me and not the Rifle..😉 Anyway I may go to have new...

    Ball and Patch thickness ?

Thanks, it’s getting much better by using a light oiled felt .45 cal. Try .50 cal. felt before, only to my surprise the smaller felt produce better groups (also easy to load) sorry that it takes me so long to reply. Regards. Willi

    Ball and Patch thickness ?

Hello, thanks a lot for all your advise, I try the .464 and .457 RB with a .025 patch and 50 to 55 gr of Swiss No.2 already. The groups are already not really bad, only I expect more from 50 meters distance bench shooting...sometimes I got a 2.5 -3 inch group with, let's say from 7 to 8 shots...

I try a own made Maxi ball with a Minnie base...

Blow out hole on percussion guns

Grenadier1758 So, I just leave the diameter of the vent hole, like it is and trust the Gunmaker. The flame out of the vent hole and at the Muzzle looks more dramatic in the picture than with the naked eye. I also switch to Swiss #3 and instead of #2 (55 grains) and vent and muzzle flash are...

Blow out hole on percussion guns

Your explanation make some sense too.. Only I guess we talk about milliseconds in Ingnition time and now, I m thinking about the purpose again, why they did it ? Was it for overpressure safety, or avoid that the was Hammer thrown back, or for making sure the the channel is free and unblocked...

Blow out hole on percussion guns

Hello Feltwad, thanks for your advise, my feeling was also that this venthole is a bit to big, after seeing the pictures, only I don't know better and because the whole Gun was in quite excellent condition, I thought, this is maybe the way it have to be. So what's about .015 or .020 ? Thanks...

Blow out hole on percussion guns

Hello, about one year ago I bought this Austrian Rifle and wondering a lot about the small venthole at the side of the drum...thought it may act like a safety valve. All my fellow ML shooters believe also in this. We all, only guessing and no one came up with another idea. So today I got the...
