Help identifying a Navy Arms 1858?

My two best are a 94 on and a 89 on N-SSA 25 yard targets took second in Class 3 with the 89 at the Nationals. I have a friend who is classified as an Expert shoot a 98 with my revolver. Two shots in the 9 ring the rest were 10s and 10Xs. George looked through my spotting scope and told me it...

Help identifying a Navy Arms 1858?

The Deluxe version is the same as the DGW Shooters Model. Every part except the screws should fit an original at least that is what I was told when I purchase mine back in 1997. The rifling in the barrel is progressive which is diffent from the standard Italian revolvers. Mine is really...

    Spiller & Burr Revolver

Pietta's web site has two other S&B models available, but have never seen either one. They look to either be silver or chrome plated.

    Spiller & Burr Revolver

Lee makes 3 conical molds for black powder revolvers. The one for the navy is 0.375 with two lube grooves. They are not much bigger than a roundball.

    58 Remington maker?

My pietta deluxe, same as the DGW Shooters, has a dovetailed front sight.

    Pietta NM Remington 'Shooter's Model'

Bob. it could just a case of the lack of quality control, which the Italians are known for, but I get a very nice lead ring using a 0.457 round bald on mine. I also get good accuracy using the 0.456 Lee conicals.I just purchased two extra cylinders from DGW for the shooters revolver. Aftery your...

    Pietta NM Remington 'Shooter's Model'

Of the competitive revolvers the Pietta is the most available here in the U.S. but the third choice among international shooters. The number one revolver among international shooters is the Hege Remington Revolver but get the right one as Hege is pretty much a German DGW. These revolvers are...

    King George Priming Flask

I have been looking for a picture of this flask that I thought I placed on a disc prior to my computer crashing but I just can't seem to find it. Maybe I could just contact Jarnagin and they could point me in the right direction.

    King George Priming Flask

Jarnagin used to carry a King George brass priming flask. The explanation was that prior to the revolutionary war, priming was seperate from loading the ball. The flask was a replica of one found at Fort Louden and had the Kings Coat of Arms on the outside. These were usually a wait listed...

    I'm not happy with Lyman

I got the ramrod stuck in my lyman running a patch through. I took out the flash hole liner, placed a little bit of flash powder inside the back of the barrel put the flash hole liner back primed the pan and let fly. The ramrod went about 25 to 30 feet, landed harmlessly with nothing broken. Bruce

    No gain in Pietta barrels

To get the gain twist rifiling in a Pietta Remington you either need the Navy Arms Deluxe Remington or the DGW Shooters Revolver. Cabelas also carried it for a while but have not seen it in their catalogue for quite a while. These guns are expensive.

    Jefferson Longrifles??

Yes, I belong to the Jefferson County Longrifles or at least I did up until this weekend. My dad got sick and I did't make the picnic and I will not be able to make the winter rendezvous this weekend when 2013 dues are due. Probably square up at the summer rendezvous.

    Euroarms America

I had a 1803 Harpers Ferry with the same problem. It needed a sidecar on the barrel to get it to shoot accurately. I was lucky, kind of, as I purchased mine from Navy Arms but it still took over three years to get a new rifle. Never fired the replacement though as I purchased a Lyman GPR as I...

    alox

N-SSA smoothbore shooters have a love affair with alox. Double dipped round ball and i believe it is between 40 and 50 grains of FFF Swiss, no card/wad. One of the guys I shoot with tried it in his NSW Officers Fusil and claimed he could adjust for right and left. I guess I am going to try it...

Cabela's SxS going the way of the carrier pigeon

Spikebuck, is it just the 12 gage that will be discontinued or is it all three gages of the side by sides. I believe the 10 gage is more popular between the 10 an 12. I do have one of their 12s that I purchased out of the Wheeling Bargin Cave a couple of years back and picked up the extra choke...

    Paper Cargridge Lube Recipe

I have a NSW Officers Fusil. I roll paper cartridges using 20 pound cotton bond paper. Once my 0.648 RB is rolled in the paper I dip it in a bees wax, unsalted crisco and olive oil mix. The base for this mix starts out at 1/3 rd of each then adding one component or another as the ouside...

    Hot Weather Lube

I start with approximate equal parts beeswax, crisco (unsalted), and olive oil. I then adjust the beeswax component to the outside temperature.

    All Steel Spiller & Burr

Ok going off of memory here. Whitney manufactured Colts prior to the completion of the colt factory. I can't rember which one. Whitney also had use of the Beals Patton, for the solid frame revolver prior to Remington, as Beals worked for Whitney. Eli Whitney matched the 1851 colt loading lever...
