Sighting of caps in the wild

Not being a competitor, 400 caps will probably do me for a couple years.

Would probably be chewing plug tobacco in any case.

Sighting of caps in the wild

I am trying to imagine an easily offended transgender mountain man. My imagination is clearly not up to the task. I have a bunch of musket caps, but wanted to try the rws. Had they been anything else, I would have left them all there.

Sighting of caps in the wild

I walked into sportsman's today to buy a fishing lure and decided to wander my the ML section. To my great surprise, there was a small pile of 200 count RWS musket caps for sale, $21.99 each. Having heard here that RWS is the shizzle in musket caps, I picked up a couple of tins and left the...

    Powder shortage effects

Black MZ is no more, but APP still makes the same formula. Out of stock now, but shows up from time to time: Shooters World Multi-Purpose Black FFF Sulfurless Powder 1 Pound - Graf & Sons (grafs.com)

Specific bullets for cold weather hunting?

Never heard of such a thing.

    First hunt, smoke rolled

Very nice. For preference I shoot young does for eating. Should be tender and tasty.

    Lee Moulds

I use synthetic 2 cycle oil as a sprue and pin lube. Just a small amount on a q tip will do it. Once in a while 4 cavity molds Lyman molds show up on eBay. I have snagged 440, 445, and 490 round ball 4 bangers. They are heavy and built like tanks, probably never wear out absent rust. Once...

    Powder Charges?

FWIW, when I work up a hunting load I find the area of accuracy and keep pushing the charge up until accuracy drops off. Then I use the highest accurate charge. For target purposes, I just use the most accurate load, with the lowest charge if a range of charges is equally accurate..

    Sight help on Kentucky rifle

Can't help you with the Triple 7 as I don't use it. With overpowder wads, I just use a single wad. They are usually sold for a specific caliber by e.g. Track of the Wolf.

    Lee Moulds

I never bother smoking any molds. Preheating is critical, so the hotplate gets a workout before I start casting. I actually fire up the hot plate before I even turn the melting pot on.

    Sight help on Kentucky rifle

Loja, your accuracy load will take deer at reasonable ranges. Shoot some more and get comfy with the gun, the load, and make sure your loading process is consistent. When you get there, practice making a quick reload for hunting purposes. I also seem to get many of my deer while I am moving...

    Powder Charges?

It is being made by the original manufacturer under the American Pioneer and Shooter's World brands. It was available at graf's a few weeks ago.

    Powder Charges?

Interesting data. I really haven't bothered with a chronograph, knowing that any charge 60 grains on up should do it at the ranges I will take shots.

    Powder Charges?

Funny. I used a Grey Hawk for my first two ML deer. It shoots very well with conicals, but 54 conicals are heavy and recoil is a bit much for me with that light a rifle. So I spent a bunch of time working up a PRB load with Black MZ. After a whole bunch of load work up, I finally got very...

what a difference 5 grains makes!

I spent a lot of time playing with my Zouave this summer to be ready for a shot on a deer this fall (successful). I know the limit of my shooting with most of my MLs is my vision rather than the gun. I chose to work with a 570 ball, .015 prelubed patches and wads as necessary. Used OE 1.5F...

Needing general help with my T/C

Zeb, if it were me I would figure out how to fix it or have it fixed rather than replace the stock. Why? This is a kit gun. It is probably something your dad made/put together and used. There is no replacing that. My dad is still alive, but every big game hunt I bring along the hunting...

    Nipples and cap fit

My buddy bought a Pietta 1858 tonight as his first BP revolver. I am about out of remington #10 caps, but have an ample supply of RWS 1075 Plus and CCI #11s I can share with him. He will try those on his factory nipples (neither fits my Uberti factory nipples), but if they don't fit I imagine...
