    Pietta 1860 Army Question

With my Remington, I've always used the 30gr spout that's on the flask. It'll be convenient to do the same with the Colt.

    Pietta 1860 Army Question

So, you're saying that 28gr of Pyrodex, in weight, gives you 30gr in volume? That would make sense.

    Pietta 1860 Army Question

Do you hand lap by running patches with polishing compound through the bore over a jag?

    Installing Action Shields?

That thing won't be moving a single bit. When I first pulled the wedge, I thought I'd need to tap on something with my rubber Malloy because it was so thoroughly held together. Its parts are solidly matched! So, can you install the action shield if I just send in the hammer, or do you need...

    Pietta 1860 Army Question

For me, I train with loads I would use for a fight, and 30 grains is what I would use for that purpose. It's the only reason I don't use lighter charges.

    Pietta 1860 Army Question

I did some reading on Confederate revolvers, and the Dance revolvers appear to have been Confederate clones of the Colt 1860 Army, made of steel. If you still want a Confederate revolver of steel, that might be a good way to go.

    Pietta 1860 Army Question

That's a good point, but I have no way of knowing. All I know is 30gr of Pyrodex is fine according to the manual for my Uberti Remington, so it would make sense for it to be the same with my Colt. Mine came from Taylor's. It kind of surprised me. I was expecting an actual Pietta box the same...

    Installing Action Shields?

That's a good question. Part of the reason I got into black powder was to learn a new type of weaponry. I'm a firm believer in developing enough proficiency with any weapon I have that I can be able to use it in a defensive situation. I also like to set them up for that purpose. I have...

    Traditions trapper

That's impressive. Did you swab the bore after every shot, or were those all done back to back?

Mine is the .44 with the scrolling.

    Pietta 1860 Army Question

So, my new revolver arrived, today, and it looks pretty nicely done. There's a weird mark across one of the lands that looks like a machinist scraped it lightly, but I don't know if it will affect accuracy--it might even smooth out with use. The Pietta instruction manual shows a max Pyrodex...

    Installing Action Shields?

Can I send you my hammer for the upgrade, or do you need the whole gun? Actually, the gun might need a little lapping depending on what you think of something I saw in the bore when I was cleaning it after taking it out of the box. There was what I thought was a persistent greasy streak across...

    Installing Action Shields?

So, this sounds like something requiring a little more shop capacity than I have right now. Can Goons do the action shield if you just send in the hammer? I have SlixPrings nipples en route, so a cap rake would be redundant. I think the better nipples and action shield would suffice quite nicely.

    Installing Action Shields?

Do you have a picture of what you have installed?

I like that commonality of parts. I'd like to get one of the rifles, too, and having a rifle that shares parts with my pistol would be nice.

    I'd like to know, too.

    Installing Action Shields?

So, I just did a search of the site after having effectively come up dry searching the web for action shield installation instructions, and I didn't find any such instructions here, either. I can see from a picture that @45D posted that it is a strip of metal the width of the hammer channel...

    Traditions trapper

My Traditions Trapper is the first flintlock I've ever had, and I am glad to have gotten it. Out of the box, it has been a near-flawless performer. Get the 5/8" flints from Track of the Wolf for it, and you'll have the right size.

    Barrel to Cylinder Clearance

Is there any rebound of the barrel before the projectile exits the muzzle?
