    The first thing I would do is check to make sure the breech plug is sound. Then scrub the bore with a good rust remover like a 50/50 mix of acetone and automatic transmission fluid. Then I would shoot some patched round balls through it. I have been amazed how well some of the barrels I thought...

    I think many of the bench guns were fitted with a false muzzle to aid loading. Are you sure the rifling is ruined back from the muzzle? https://www.muzzleloadingforum.com/threads/false-muzzles.18617/
