    Lyman interchange with Investarms ?

I'm thinking it would probably work but there could be subtle differences that might make it more involved than a drop-in fit. If you want the equivalent of Lyman Trade Rifle with the cap box and double set triggers, and you want to know 100% it'll work right, buy an Investarms Hawken from...

    Pedersoli Brown Bess Carbine

Thanks LD. I got ahold of some sheet lead and cut it like shown in your picture. I will give it a try the next time I take out the gun.

    Indian Muskets

Pictures of burst guns, by themselves, prove exactly nothing other than the gun burst. They provide no insight into why they burst. What the gun neglected? Was it overcharged? Was the bore obstructed? Was it loaded with smokeless powder? Etc., etc.

    Pedersoli Brown Bess Carbine

So I shot the Bess carbine today. My first shot was a patched 0.735 ball. That’s a VERY tight fit so if I shoot any more of them, I’ll try them bare. Some smoothbore shooters do well with an over-power card or wad, bare ball, and an over ball card to hold it in place. I also have some 0.710...

    Pedersoli Brown Bess Carbine

@Rat Check out this sight and you can find out when yours was made: https://unblinkingeye.com/Guns/IDC/idc.html For example, mine has "BP" stamped inside of a square on the barrel near the serial number, which is the date code for 2001. The bore is in good shape. I ran a wet bronze tornado...

    Pedersoli Brown Bess Carbine

LD, that is a great idea for relocating the sling swivel! Don't know why I didn't think of it. I'm thinking of drilling and putting a cross pin in the ramrod tip to secure it. Any reason not to do that?

    Pedersoli Brown Bess Carbine

Point taken on the solder, gents. Good try, Renegade Dan. :) BTW, this one has a 2001 date code on the barrel.

    Pedersoli Brown Bess Carbine

I think I need an intervention. :) In the past month I picked up an India Pattern Brown Bess from IMA and today I got this used Pedersoli Brown Bess carbine at Dixon's Muzzleloading Shop. According to Greg Dixon, the previous owner brought in two of them since he was getting out of reenacting...

Are the Military Heritage brown besses any good?

Cool! I remember Ron and Speedy, and Wayne rings a bell. Ron Griffie built my father a caplock .40 caliber poor boy in the early 70s that my brother now has. The rifle has a nice curly maple stock, poured lead nosecap, and a barrel that Ron rifled himself. My dad also belonged to Tidewater but...

Are the Military Heritage brown besses any good?

There's a name I haven't heard in awhile. I met Tom Hobbs when I was a kid in the 1970s. My father, Ron Markowitz, was a founding member of Marriotsville Muzzleloaders which used the Associated Gun Clubs of Baltimore Range. I used to wander around the AGC grounds with other kids during shoots.

EIC Pattern Brown Bess on the Way and a Question

So after some tinkering with the lock, I've determined that the reason it won't go to full cock is that the sear spring is not able to push the sear arm down so that the nose rotates into the full cock notch. Either the V of the sear spring is not wide enough or the tip of it isn't long enough...

EIC Pattern Brown Bess on the Way and a Question

@Artificer: This is the combination tool: https://www.ima-usa.com/products/original-antique-five-function-flintlock-musket-combination-tool Note that it wasn't advertised as being for the Brown Bess. The movable arm appears to be a pan scraper. The screwdriver blades do not fit the screws on...

EIC Pattern Brown Bess on the Way and a Question

The Bess arrived today. Overall it seems to be in pretty good shape but the lock needs a little tweaking. It won't hold at full cock. The frizzen looks to be in good shape. As expected the bore is rusty. I currently have some WD-40 down it but plan to soak it in Evaporust. I also got one of...

    Tow

Turkey Foot Trading sells 4 oz. of hemp tow for $4.00 here. I haven't tried it for cleaning yet, but it worked great for tinder when starting a fire with flint, steel, and char cloth.

    Numrich Arms Underhammer

They are great guns. This is my .45 caliber Heritage Model that my dad bought in 1970 and gave to me in 1981. I haven't shot it in a long time but hope to remedy that soon. It's all original except for the ramrod.
